Hi all,

This is my first post in this section. The reason being I am going to look at an Eunos Roadster this week. It is a 1992 V-Special in British racing green. It's got the original leather, and nardi wood steering wheel and gear lever.

It was imported in 2005 and was completely undersealed at this time. It has had 1 previous owner and the equivalent of 80k miles on the clock. Apparently there is no rust whatsoever on the bodywork or any of the arches and has been garaged by the current owner. It has also had the cambelt done 10k miles ago. It has just sailed through it's MOT.

I have a couple of questions for you knowledgeable folks if that's ok smile

Am I right in thinking that as long as there is not much (or any) rust it's a good egg?

What are the tell tell signs of a bad car?

What are the main things that I should check that could cost a lot to fix?

Does the V-Special have an LSD?

Given tha above description how much should I pay for it?

Looking on here it seems I should check that it pulls strong in every gear.

Bit of a novice when it comes to buying second hand cars so would appreciate some tips.

Thanks in advance

Tom

Hi Tom, and welcome.

I bougth a 1994 V-Special 2 about 6 weeks ago, so I'm not an expert on the car at all, but I'll help where I can.

I think than you can treat the car as you can with any other car. If it was undersealed when it arrived in this county (as you say it was), then it should be virtually rust free and better than UK ones, generally speaking.

As for checking the car, I don't know if there are any major things to look out for that wouldn't be obvious, but then, as I said, I'm no expert. I got mine taken to a local garage and inspected, so that gave me peace of mind.

I think my 1.8 has an LSD, and I think they were more common on imports, but the only way to tell is either to drive it like you stole it, or get it on some ramps and have a look. Someone more expert than me should be able to tell you what to look for, but as far as I'm aware it's difficult to tell by simply lying on the floor and having a look under the back.

I paid £2,700 for mine. It has £65K miles on the clock and had a brand new hood, new wheels and a stainless steel exhaust fitted in the last 18 months. I think that was a little pricey, but at least it gives you a point of comparison.

Hope it all works out for you.
