And what would be the chances of similar coming up after winter?

Largley as I want to keep my Alfa for a bit longer hehe Plus trying to be vaguely sensible I want to give myself a longer time to learn to drive RWD properly.

Yep that ^^^ and the fact the MX5 is really quite forgiving for a rear driver - perfect 50/50 weight balance, decent but not too much grip and lightweight means even if you push too hard, you won't be going TOO fast and it also doesn't want to bite. I generally find in the dry, it will straighten up without much effort. In the wet, yes you'll need to be more careful, at first, but then you gradually learn it becomes fun as its so easy to slide around.

Steve - dont beleive all this 'learn to drive RWD' rubbish. My car is an absolute pussycat - my old Gti-6 was far 'harder' to drive and required greater skill to hustle.

The MX-5 you can just jump in and it feels perfectly natural, easy to drive and accessible. There no real issue with handling, the only thing a new owner really has to get into their head is when you think its time to change gear, it not. More revs. No, more than that. Bit more... ok now you can change gear.

(this is the main reason people think they are 'slow', they get out of their Golf TDI, put their foot down in 5th at 60mph and nothing happens, where-as a superior diesel tractor engine would pull off in a cloud of smoke. Its only when you realise that if you stick it in 3rd and wind it right up then it actually goes ok).

That R-ltd looks really nice, possibly a bit of a premium because its one of the rarer special editions , and I would hope its in very, very nice condition for that much. If it stacks up though and you like the interior, looks good to me.

As an aside, its got the same super rare Mazdaspeed A-spec nose as mine, which is worth a few quid - missing the bottom rubber piece though I think.

Looks good. I'd buy that if it were a bit closer.

I don't think that looks that expensive either when you see what other, lesser models are being advertised for.

not gonna do much better for the price - it's a nice spec and the early 1.8's are pretty desireable

The hard-top itself is worth £4-500 so that looks like good value to me cool

I would go for the opinion of good value too considering it's a limited edition, appears to be in good nick, and has low mileage.
Not to mention that gorgeous interior!
I got my Mk2 for 2k earlier this year, but it needed some work doing to it, and it is now 101k miles, and is only the lowly 1.8iS. I wanted an RS frown

RWD is fine to drive, it's a beautiful handling car. Really isn't too scary to drive either and my car has the Torsen diff, so apparently more slidy-er. I've had a couple of fishtail moments, but I just come off the loud pedal and it sorts itself out! I still take care in the wet however, but that's ok because I'm still not 100% with it yet!

Get it!

Whose the policy with? New policy or just changing the details on youyr current one? How longs left on it?

Prices can vary massively with these cars, particularly imports!

Well I think that is a stunner of a 5. Quite possibly the second most desireable Mk1 after the RS as it is mechanically identical. I prefer it to the RS as the red leather is top dollar cool

It is also very cheap, I sold mine for getting on for 3500 a couple of years ago. Considering that has a hard top its mega value. Nice front bumper too, not too OTT.

Considering the purchase price is so low I'd buy it and pay extra on the insurance. Also - shop around on the insurance, your company is quoting more as its an import, not all do that.

Quote was with Adrian Flux, and was a new policy rather than changing current. Got 9 month left on it redface

May ring around elsewhere

ETA tried directline who quoted £2500, and barclays who quoted 3k (and thats with my mother as a second driver) rofl

Further ETA £5000 from Asda online rofl

christ on a bike. I always get screwed on insurance, but I'm on £270 the year FC on a Eunos. I'm 36, live in Manchester and have 6 points. Shop around!

Oh, and you cannot have more legal fun for the money than buying a five and taking it to the Evo Triangle. Fact
