sticky calipers
Discussion
Hi, Rear calipers where starting to seize, so took them apart to try an unseize and lube the slider pins.. Turned out both of the top pins on each caliper where seized so badly i had to use a heat tool on them. Eventually got them apart, but chewed the caliper slightly, think its only cosmetic.. anyway lubed the slider pins and put everything back together, took a small amount of hammering to get the calipers on the top slider pins.. attached everything, adjusted the piston so that it connected with the pads then wound it back a third of a turn.. then with a large amount of fiddling with the piston adjustor and handbrake, i couldn't get the nearside caliper to hold the car on the handbrake.. the brakes work with the foot pedal, but not with the handbrake.. took it to the end of the garage at the end of the road( they're not great) an they've said it needs two new calipers.. but im a bit scepticle of that..an i don't really want to be forking out for a new set of calipers! any thing i'm missing?

Take the calipers back of the pins and turn it upside down, you should see the handbrake arm, remove the spring and praise the arm up( it will only come out by half an inch),spray the hell out of it with some plus gas and push it back in and move the arm backwards and forwards, carry on doing this a couple of times to make sure it is all free, just before you but the spring back on slap a lod of copper slip on to help lube and to stop it happing again.
Hope this helps
