Cam/Rocker Gasket Change - Where To Put Sealant
Discussion
Hi all, I'm slowly getting round to doing all the little jobs on my mk1 Eunos and this weekend its the turn of the cam cover gasket and CAS o-ring to try and cure the oil leaks.
Question is, I know I need to put blobs of sealant (I bought high temp 'instant gasket' from a motor factors) somewhere, but can't find any directions that are in terms that I can understand! Is there any harm done by smearing it right around the edge just to make sure, or is it only needed in specific places, I've heard that 6 blobs are needed but don't know where!
Ta in advance.

typically you'll need the blobs at the corners of the gasket where it rises up to go over the cams. makde sure it's totally oil free and dry when you put the gasket down and if poss don't drive it for a little while, as if the silicon gets oil on it when it hasn't set, it won't stick to anything and can even get washed off and start floating about.
You'll only get away without putting some sealant on if the original sealant stays in place. Mazda themselves put some in the corners so it's clear that it is a requirement. If you have cleaned the existing sealant off and have fitted the gasket without anh new sealant then if it isn't leaking now I'm sure it will before too long.
I don't see a problem with it myself. It's cheap enough and its better than having a leaky gasket!
