Plumes of steam from heater vents, everything fine up til then. Temp never above the middle of gauge and heater cold not long after stopping. Front of engine bone dry, firewall soaked on passenger side at heater. Reservoir emptying as I type ...

Please please please let it just be a bust heater hose and not a cooked engine?

Yup, just a perished hose. Phew... starts and runs fine just to get it onto driveway after a much appreciated tow home.
