My mk1 Eunos takes for ever to warm up currently. I've never noticed this before because, although I've had it for a year, it's generally been garaged but when staying at my girlfriend's house, it's out overnight so become apparent. I suspect a blocked heater matrix, but how quickly should warm air start to come out of the vents?

Also, I think I've managed to dislodge something in the ventilation system. When moving the lever from windscreen only to screen+feet the other day, it stuck slightly then suddenly freed up. I am not sure what it was like before, but I now get a blast of air onto my leg even when the vent control is to windscreen only. Seems abnormal; is it, before I dismantle the dash to try to fix it?

If it takes ages to warm up then the thermostat probably needs replacing. I had the same on my Focus - the heater took ages warming up and never really got hot. With a new Thermostat it warms very quickly and is soon very toasty smile

As for the rest, it does sound like a cable has snapped or come loose...

When it's up to temp, put it to hot and full on(4)and put your hand over to the foot well in the pass side, if you can feel loads of cold air, then its the foam seals on the brackets from the heater matrix to the ducting, now there are two of them and the foam can be replaced and the brackets and refitted(you will need the glove box out to do this)the one most centre to the dash is a bh to get off and put back, but it will make a big difference.

Cheers - needs a service anyway so I'll get the thermostat changed too. The ducting etc is going to be mine to fix...

ETA: and cheers Mazdamender; you posted at exactly the same time as I replied, and that info is really useful.

Bit of a thread hi-jack so i appologise but it might help the OP

Been having trouble with my heater, in that it never really gets mega hot like my friends 5. Gets fairly warm on the max setting enough to demist windscreen etc but just one click colder it looses loads of temperature.

Is it likely to be 'stat as well? Seems to get to temp pretty quick thou?

Sounds pretty similar to mine - I'll let you know. I have a pair of gloves in the centre console because it got quite cold top down last winter; a good heater is important in our cars biggrin

If it takes ages to warm up then I'd suspect the thermostat. If it warms up quickly but doesn't get that hot or doesn't adjust very well then I'd say Mazdamenders suggestion is more likely.

I have a similar problem, it's not the thermostat engine warms up fine and it has been replaced with an original mazda one. I have no leaks and the hot/cold adjust arm moves fully. I have attempted to flush the heater matrix but I think it is blocked. Another possibility is the coolant connections for the turbo tap off either side of the matrix and possibly reducing the the flow. Others don't seem to complain of this though.

The cam thing which moves the ventilation between legs/face/screen seems to work properly; however, my coolant looks as if it could do with a change so the temperature thing may partly be down a blocked heater matrix. Haven't tried to fiddle with the foam yet, because it looks awfully inaccessible.

Coat and gloves will do wink
