Alright chaps! Bought an 1994 mk1 mx5 1.8 back in the summer. It has rust on both sills front and back, on both rear arches and a little on the front ones. Now, with driving about on these salty roads I'm starting to worry that my car may just dissolve from under me!
I am looking to get these rusty areas replaced with some good old fashioned welding but have no idea of the costs involved. I have seen people online returning quotes of 150 to 300 just for the sills. Does anyone have previous dealings with rusty mx5s or an idea of costs??
I want it painted obviously too but can the welding guys do that sort if thing too?
I would seriously appreciate any help!

Not much experience of mine as I've only had it a month or so, however, I have a receipt for the welding done on the sills at £180 and they've been painted but not very well, both front wings on mine have rust and looking at Mx5 parts works out at roughly £300 for 2 new ones including painting professionally done.
Unsure on rears as I'm not too fussed with mine but I expect them to be a little more than the fronts so I'd hazard a guess at approx £400ish.

Total to get it rust free and in fairly good paint condition I'd estimate at over £1.5k.
I'm using this one until it gets too bad then I'll put more money into one of a better spec and condition rather than just chuck it all into this one, makes more sense to me.

I got a patch job done on one sill for £50, others have had it done for £40 I believe. Obviously not as good as a £300 job.

an MOT pass (i.e. weld a patch on to cover visible rust) will cost around £40 a side.

to do it fully, cut out every piece of rust and replace all the internal panels and rust proof them then either make a new exterior panel or buy a replacement panel will cost typically £3-400 including paint depending on how bad it's gone.
