Right, ive just picked my car up from the garage where I dropped it off this morning for the clutch to be 'done'.

They haven't done it frown the reason as far as I can gather is that they either couldn't get either the box off or get the prop off but wouldn't explain too much more other than, "a bolt which holds it to the axle is properly stuck and if we break it then we'll need to take the axle off and it'll cost you a few £££s" or something similar...

Any ideas on which bolt this could be would be much appreciated, i've had a look around on google and as far as I can tell there isn't a specific problem and they all just need to be forced off but now I'm forced to wait until next week to get the clutch done by someone else frown

So if anyone knows which bolt it could be and/or a resolution it'd be brill smile

I see you're in Warks - if you're near Knowle why not drop in on our very own OnlyMX5s?

No idea what they mean as theres no 'axle' as such on an MX5.

To change the clutch they need to undo/loosen the PPF at both ends, undo the propshaft at the diff end, undo the bellhousing bolts and pull the gearbox back/out.

It could be the PPF frame bolts that they mean - I say this because -

- They were really, really, reallly, realllllllly tight on my car
- The PPF is probably a bit alien to them if they are not MX-5 specialists as most cars are put together in a different way, they might not fully grasp what there trying to do.

Maybe they mean one of the 4 bolts that bolt the end of the propshaft to the diff? The propshaft is splined and slides out of the gearbox at the other end so the diff end needs to be unbolted for it (and then the gearbox) to be removed.

When I changed my engine I bought four new prop bolts from a Mazda dealer for a few quid, they have some sort of threadlock on them also so I suppose they may be fairly tight.

I had no problems undoing the old bolts on my mk1, despite it being pretty rough underneath. If I could do it laying under a car on the driveway I would have thought a decent garage could loosen a bolt with the car on a ramp - even laying under the car the access to the diff flange is very good.

This is what I thought after having a dig around a few forums, the garage had never done one before so I suppose it could have been a reason?! If I had ramps I'd do it myself but space at mine is an issue frown I've got a mate trying on Tuesday so hopefully he'll be a bit more knowledgeable and useful to me. Cheers guys smile
