So today whilst washing the Eunos i got carried away and decided to do some little jobs that are a long time overdue. It all started brilliantly, the first job was to work out why the passenger side of the roof wasn't fitting flush with the top of the windscreen allowing a small ingress of water when raining. It turned out to be simply that the catch, which is bolted next to the sun visor was very loose, almost falling off loose. So out came a hex wrench and it was tightened up and the roof now fits flush once more. result. The second job also went smoothly, i was investigating why the boot was often wet and decided it must be due to water leaking down through the bolt holes of those chrome thingys just behind the boot lid. I think they are for attaching a hardtop. Anyway i unscrewed the chrome thingys (everyone should do this) and lifted them out, underneath was sodden and the paint has started to crack!! I gave both sides a good clean applied some Vaseline to the rubber seals, the car and to the bolts and reattached them. I then stood back and admired my handiwork. Hopefully that is boot water ingress stopped. The next job was perhaps the most ambitious, when i bought the car in June i noticed that the door mirrors were perfectly positioned and had no cause to adjust them. Some months later i returned to my car having parked it on the street outside one of my mates houses and the driver door mirror had been hit by a passing vehicle and was now very poorly adjusted. Luckily it didn't snap off nor was there any damage to it. Phew. I then had to set about moving it back to its previous position, this was difficult as throughout the whole process i expected the mirror to snap off, it was that stiff. i finally readjusted the mirror back but it has never been quite right and i have been too scared to adjust it further for fear of snapping. So today i thought, i'll get both mirrors off and adjust/ lubricate accordingly. Bad idea. Both mirrors unscrewed with ease and after a cursory glance at the forums on mx5oc i set about loosening the bolt that controls the tightness of the ball joint. SNAP. The bolt broke away and something big was now roaming free behind the mirror glass. COCK, i thought to myself. I returned once more to the forums on MX5oc and learned that you can get the glass out by carefully prising away the black plastic surround which worked perfectly and i had the mirror glass out and retrieved half a bolt, a washer and a huge spring. I now had to fashion a repair, fortunately my garage has a stock of various size nuts and bolts and i found a direct replacement for the broken bolt. I did however struggle very much to get the half of the bolt trapped in the nylon ball out but eventually, with the aid of a hammer it came out. The new bolt went in, i rebuilt the mirror and then adjusted the nut to a suitable tightness so as to easily be able to adjust the mirror. I then reattached to the car. The second mirror was less of an ass and so i simply adjusted the tightness of the nut and again reattached to the car. I now have two perfectly functional door mirrors. im pleased with my work this afternoon. Next job, maybe tomorrow, is to make the electric windows work more quickly.

Good work, for some reason I tend to put up with those kind of faults and then fix them when I come to sell the car! If the boot's still wet it'll probably be a perished rain rail - another DIY job. You can even make your own replacement.
