New tyre time is rapidly coming up so I'd best guess saving, the question is what should I be saving for?

I've been a massive fan of Michelin PE2 on my previous FWD hatches, I'm just about willing to pay the premium on the 17" size.

I'm after a tyre that will have a positive feel as well as plenty of grip. Longevity is also an issue as I will be doing ~15k a year.

I'm generally quite gentle on my tyres, my driving style tends not to rip them to shreds.

Car will hopefully be WIM'd by the time I get them.

Federal rsr 595's are the tyres I would recommend. We have a car with them fitted should you wish to try it out........

We can also sort the Alignment if required......

I've got Toyo T1-Rs. The previous owner had them fitted and I liked the feel of the car with them on, it seemed only sensible to replace with a full set of the same when the time came. They weren't easy to get hold of though I managed them for around £75 per corner (about 12 months ago).

I'm running Potenza RE050's on mine (it came delivered with them). They are expensive at almost a ton a corner, but I have to say they are superb tyres with loads of grip. The car clings like a limpet and stops on a dime. I've done 12k on them so far, the car has just had it's first service and on the condition report it says there's 4mm left on the back and 5.5mm left on the front, which is pretty impressive.

FWIW, I've got Yokohamas on mine at the moment (not sure which ones in particular; came fitted already) but I definietely won't be fitting them again.

Not to be confused with Federal SS595 which I've heard are a bit rubbish...

How would you describe the Federals in comparison to the likes of Michelin/Bridgestone/Conti etc?

I must admit I don't know a great deal about them.

We just put 4 x Toyo's on our mk3 sport. Initially, they appear very well suited to the car. Not really had an opportunity to extend them yet. Paid £360.

Federal SS595 RSR are semi-track tyres so will be awesome on warm dry roads, very good on warm wet roads, reasonable on cold dry roads and iffy on cold wet, icy, snowy roads (I haven't tried them myself but I'm assuming they are similar in character to Hankook RS2). To be fair though they won't be any worse in winter conditions than most other summer/performance tyre.
