Evening all, I'm formulating plans to change my car either this summer, or next, I'd like a Mk2.5 MX-5 1.8 but I've been informed by a reliable source (Jonny671/JonnyFive) that I might have issues due to my 6ft 4 frame. The seats in them sit higher than they do in a Mk1 or a Mk2... I sit high in his Mk2, and I struggled with my knees around the wheel in Mr MXTs at the weekend, despite its diminutive proportions, though his seats aren't as far back as they could be...

Am I going to have issues? - I don't mind struggling to get in with the roof up/roof up in tight spaces...

It's not going to be great tbh. The M2.5 leather seat adds nearly an inch of height compared to cloth, so try a cloth one for size.

I've got a 2.5 Sport with the leather seats, and just fit. It helps that it has the three-spoke wheel, so smaller diameter. I still feel a little bit too high in the car, and the wheel could do with being a touch closer to me, so when I can summon the motivation i'll investigate Elise seats and an aftermarket dished wheel. That's assuming my insurance company is feeling charitable.

I might try a 'foamectomy' to see if that helps, although I don't really want to make my pristine seats look all saggy!

ETA: Some idea of my height would have been useful. I'm somewhere between 6'3" and 6'4". I would have said it was mostly leg before getting a '5 and realising my body was too tall as well.

Thanks for that, looks like I may have to find one both a cloth-seated model and one with leather to compare... I tried Mr MXTs with Elise seats and a tiny wheel, positioning of the wheel was perfect but I'd really struggle turning left because of my knee! Seats weren't as far back as standard seats would be though

I think you, may.. Fit in a MK2.5, maybe with a smaller wheel for your legs and the seat as far back as it'll go.. But you also have to think are you actually going to enjoy it? They're excellent cars, but some people do look silly in them hehe

LSI likened me to Donkey Kong as we left in yours the other day, though I was sitting quite upright...

There is no way you are going to fit comfortably you massive, fat b*stard. Bear in mind, my steering wheel is TINY, the absolute smallest you could get away with for road use IMO. You'd have to swap to one of a similar size, so you'd lose the airbag and wouldnt be able to see the dials.

With "normal" seats all the way back (only about another inch of travel from my set up) I think you'd still be sitting too high.

So basically what I'm trying to say is lose some height and weight or buy a 200sx hehe

p.s. I've got you a Scania colouring book.

Well I'm literally the 3rd turning on the right if you come off the A3 at Hindhead, if you wanted, I could guide you over there and walk back in about 5mins haha

I'm 6'1 and I didn't feel comfortable in it at all, based on a test drive I certainly wouldn't buy one.

Head room was fine, it was legroom that I really struggled with.

My Mk3 on the other hand is completely fine biggrin
