I'm thinking of entering the HSA Speed Championship this year and am looking for a bit of advice...

For anyone who's entered previously, could you please distill the blue book into a list of things that HAVE to be done? Things I'm most interested in at the moment are: seats (getting some JK Composite seats next week), rollbar (I have a TR Lane TD bar - is this ok), oil catch tank, fuel cut off etc.

Sorry for being vague, but would really appreciate any advice smile

Hi Worldwide,
You need to look/wade through the blue book.

http://www.msauk.org/site/cms/contentviewarticle.a...

Check out the section on Hillclimbing and sprint section and also the competitors safety section. Make sure you have the correct FIA helmet, overhalls, tyres etc. It then depends which championship you go for.

while I haven't read the blue book on those sections, i do do a lot of marshalling at spent and hillclimbs. last season there were 3 or 4 MX5s that entered the HSA meetings.

since they ran in the normal hill class of roadgoing class II ie over 1400cc and under 2000cc
which means the modification for sprinting are small.
as a min you need to have a red arrow on your ignition keys showing which direction is off, the battery negative cable to be marked with yellow tape, the towing points are marked with a TOW -> sticker and that you have list 1b tyres.

since if you run with the roof down, it is classed as an open car you need to have a full face helmet, or and open face, but wear goggles.

wearing gloves i believe was made mandatory last year.

if running in roadgoing you can't strip the car so no removing carpets, hood, passenger seat etc. but safety enhancements such as a roll bar, race seat and harness are allowed.

if you do come to harewood, run with your roof down, but have your visor up, you will get a visit from a very pendant clerk of the course, cos us in Orange will have radioed it in. wink we have some guys on the bank who have swallowed the blue book, and when they get bored they like to start picking up on things as the cars go past.

have fun, and be careful, i dont want to meet you at the side of the track. in the padlock is good enough for me. smile

Thanks for the info lord s. Sounds like I should be ok with just a little bit of work.

I've actually done Harewood in a Westfield a few years back - a very scary right hander to finish - and really enjoyed it. If I do come down this year I'll be sure to come and say hello smile

If you have a roll bar does it have to be FIA approved? I'm pretty sure the TR Lane ones aren't.

if in the roadcar class, and sprinting... no*.

  • a quick call to your local Scrutineer will answer that better.
