Brake Bleed Nipple change

When my car was last serviced it was suggested I get the bleed nipples replaced before the next service so that they don't rust in place. I was told it would probably be about £20 parts plus half an hours labour.

Could someone without a workshop manual but with an ounce of common sense, a toolkit and some minor experience of autmotive DIY do this, or does it require draining brake fluid, bleeding the system etc?

First of all, if you get the chance to do this, do it! I've fought with rusty and soft, rounded-off bleed nipples and vise-grips so tight I had to use a mini vice to close the handles!

I'd bleed it after opening up the system - bleeding it is a piece of cake as long as you have a helper so it's no big deal.


My replacement nipples (!) were all of £5 from a motorbike shop - they are different sizes front to back, but I'm damned if I remember which size.
