Peter Griffin doesn't seem to think so...

Does this form part of a wider debate?...

Isn't the most important and consistent principle the Family guy writing team stick to that Peter Griffin is an utter imbecile whose outspokenness is only exceeded by his ignorance?

Indeed.

And do we really need another "is an MX5 really a sports car?" thread?

Given they can range from cutsie 90bhp roadster to turbo'd 300bhp track slag I would say it is a difficult car to pigeon-hole.

ETA - if my missus friend is allowed to call her Pug 206cc a "sports car", then yes, my 195bhp supercharged MX5 bloody well is!

Yes, of course it is!

In fact, if you look up "sports car" in the OED there is a picture of an MX-5 tongue out

Hmm, I'd say it was an average sports car, but a superb overall product.

I've said many times - as a fan of the '5 and and ex-owner - that the impressive things is the way it moulds that much fun into an affordable, practical, reliable package.

It's not difficult to have more fun in something else, but it is if you want it to cost less than £2k, keep the water out, carry a suitcase in the boot (okay, a small one!) and start every morning...

A 206cc is not a sports car in any sense, but a Mazda MX5 is. The MX5 was designed as a drivers car first and foremost and that is where it excels.

What a pointless but interesting thread.
I have owned sprinted hillclimbed raced and trackdayed the following.
TR4,TR5,Stag(yes really), MGBGTV8, Ford Capri RS3100, Gemini kit car, Dolomite sprint, and Quantum 2+2 turbo and all these are worthy cars especially the TR5, some are drivers cars rather than sports cars (Capri and Sprint)
For years I have laughed at MX5,s and regarded them as girlie just like the Spitfire, however the wife has a Mk1 as do I and lurking in my garage being built is a space frame special car that uses an MX5 turbo and all its running gear which when finished will be fun.
Back to the question, yes its very much a sports car and like the MGB its any car you like from limpish polished garage potato to track ripping fun car.

It is a stupid question, that has been asked before. Along with all the other troll topics like "The MX5 is for hairdressers, discuss".

However, if you're man enough to drive one you'll have a blast.

My son was gay and proud of him I am.
He did not like Sports cars of any type.
His prefered car was an Omega, the bigger the engine the better!
