Stainless Steel Exaughst Systems
Discussion
Hi chaps, Ben here
I've had my mrk2 since september last year and am now thinking about upgrading the system. Being young and new to the whole mx5 area I'd like some advice on what steps I need to take, and where abouts is the best place I need to take my car
I live in tetbury which isn't to far from cirencester, and I work in bristol so anywhere close to these areas would be great! Any idvice would be awesome
cheers

Try Bristol Exhausts:
1a Marybrook Street, Berkeley, GL13 9AA. 01453-569669.
Friend of mine had a dual exhaust put on his Mk1 turbo last year and was extremely pleased, cost about £240 if I remember rightly.
Oh nearly forgot:

ETA - his wasn't stainless steel though.

I don't have one, but MX5Parts stainless dual exit is on offer this week - I've seen mixed reviews of folks who love them and others who say they're too loud, but seems like dcent value for money...

What is considered to be the 'maturist' sounding exhaust for an NC?
I had considered drilling the exhaust, after all, it helps with the airbox..
If I was getting the 'right' exhaust for a Mk3 I'd be going to Goodwin Racing in the States and getting a Roadster Q. They have removable baffles so you can tune it to how you like it - keep the baffles in in the week, quick spin with an allen key and the baffle is out on the weekend. They are priced the same as UK exhausts too - you just have to get one ordered. What is considered to be the 'maturist' sounding exhaust for an NC?

MX5 Parts' single pipe is the answer to most of these queries - nicely judged.
I'd have to agree with Bonefish, I had this exhaust fitted last week and I'm really pleased with it, I was looking for something that sounded a bit more purposeful without it setting off alarms as you drive by, and I have to say it sounds perfect. I bought of MX5 parts and had it fitted by a local exhaust centre who said it was well made and easy to install.
Not wanting to thread hi-jack either.. But..
Does anyone know if there is an easy way to know what length the cat of a Mk1 is without, err, measuring the cat?
I've recently acquired a 1997 1.8 which is in need of a new exhaust -- and everyone says wonderful things about the MX5 Parts one. However, it seems that some 1998s were fitted with a different length cat, making most standard after-market exhausts not fit.
Anyone with a 1997 had this experience?

Off to the US with work soon, very tempting to buy it over there and take it back with me.

I have a 97 1.8. Registered 11 Feb. And that has the odd size CAT which makes the exhaust options limited. I would suggest that if yours is a 97 you'll have the same. But the only way to prove it is to measure.Does anyone know if there is an easy way to know what length the cat of a Mk1 is without, err, measuring the cat?

The alternative is to fit a cat from an older car. You can then sell on your old cat so you wouldn't be losing out.MX-5 Lazza said:

Thanks Munter. I guess I'll have to get it up on some ramps. I really should have thought of this when it was up getting it's geo sorted a few weeks ago.MX-5 Lazza said:

Interesting proposition. However, HOLY MOLY, cats appear to to be almost the same price as the whole SS exhaust from Mx5 parts. £165 new! I like the idea of a silenced decat pipe for less than half of that. But I fear the MOT man would just refuse to give me a green ticket come June, and instead shout at me for killing too many polar bears. I might have to check eBAY.
