My wifes MX5 has failed its MOT on a non working rear fog light :? strange because it has not got one :? it never has as its a Eunos import of 1991 vintage. However it has a switch on the dash hence the failure, I am for removing said switch, what say you guys?

You need a rear fog light. iirc, It is law to have one. It has obviously had one fitted at some point and something happened to it. Look at most imported cars such as the Eunos. They have a red light on the bottom of the bumper like so

the MOT requirement is that you MUST have a rear fog light and a tell tale light on the dash,

has the car been MOT'd in the uk before?

if so, is it possible that the bulb has gone, when these are fitted to eunos roadsters they sometimes get put in the 3rd brake light, or drivers side reverse light (with a red bulb), easy way to check them is to get someone to put their foot on the brake, if the 3rd light isn't working it might be that it was used for the fog light but the buld has gone, likewise with the drivers side reverse light, put it in reverse and see if its working, if not, chances are it was used for the fog light

I hope that helps

You sure your high level brake light has not been converted?

The car MUST have a fog lamp. Hence fail.

Some Eunos' have had the high level brake light converted to avoid the need of the rather unsightly low-hanging fog light.

To the lower right of the steering wheel you'd have the switches for the light, worth checking if any of the switches turn it on when the sidelights or full headlights are on.

Or fit one of the nasty ones:

Convert your centre brake light in to a fog light instead.

I did a natty little photoshop picture of how to do this, keeping the brake light as a brake light, but also working as an independent for light when (seldom) required.

Will be somewhere on this forum?....

If you have a centre brake light, this is the cheapest, neatest, quickest way to pass an MOT.

Another invoice in the post. wink

Thanks so much for your help folks, this section of PH seems to be inhabited by decent types. Found that the centre brake light had been converted and that the wire to it had been one of those dreadful crimped joints (work of the devil)I have now soldered it and sleeved it in decent plastic.
Just the broken springs now and my little lady will be a happy one.

Does it still work as a brake light? Or disconnected and wired as fog instead?

Easy to make it do both it with a couple of diodes!

No the brake lights either side are more than enough as its just a toy she might not even drive it in the dark let alone in the fog. We have boring cars for that LOL.
Thanks once again I am def going to try mine out on track especially as my track Sprint is engineless at the moment.
