My '5 has it's MOT on Tuesday and the horn is not working which I assume will be a fail.

It has not worked for ages, primarily because I don't know where to start in trying to fix it and I am too cheap to get someone else to look at something I assume might be quite simple.

Except, I have no experience of electrics at all. I bought myself a multimeter and that is about as far as my experience extends!

Now, the horn is not on the steering wheel. It has been rerouted to be a 'red' button on the steering column...

Can anyone give me an idiots guide to how I check the connection and potentially fix it? I assume / hope it is a loose connection....

Just another thought. Did it ever work? The problem could be at the other end. I've had a couple of horns die on me over the years, one just stopped working and the other became a sad, painful bleating noise (no sheep in the radiator, I checked). Cheapo plastic replacement horn from Helfrauds sorted it each time. Fitting usually involves, unplug wire, undo bolt, remove old horn, fit new horn (bend bracket, optional), tighten bolt, connect wire again.
