I have Eagle F1's ;195/50/15 on the 5 currently, I need 2 new ones, they seem to be over £100 a corner (more than the Lotus!)
I don't want to mix brands
I can pick up Toyo Proxes T1's for 40 a corner so 4 new ones would be £50 less than 2 F1's

Is there really much difference in quality?

I've got a set of Toyos sat in the shed waiting to go on the OH's. Camskill do them so much cheaper than anything else.

I've not run Toyos on the '5 before, but I used both F1's and T1Rs on my MR2 Turbo and found no real difference.

Toyos are great, but try the Falken ZE912.

Hi Di, We've used toyo's on the VX, TVR and Archie the 5 and would definitely recommend them. Got Archies set from Camskill and did a deal at a mot garage weve used in Northants and they got them in and fitted them for £150 for a complete set.

We have a set of 15" rims with toyo's on if you'd like to try them for a week to see what you think?

the T1R's are probably as similar to the F1's as you'll find (at least for something easily available)

Need to replace my GY Eagle F1s, going to go with the Toyo T1Rs, they seem to get a really good write up (as good as the F1s) on the MX5 forums.

Do you have 15" wheels? Where did you find them for 40 a corner?

This. T1Rs are OK, but there are better tyres - like these.

I've run 452s and they're great, but I've not heard good things about the longevity of the 912s (although I did run them for a short while on the family wagon).

Out of interest, what defines a good tyre? I'm just thinking one mans good tyre (lasts for ages!) might be another mans rubbish tyre (no grip!)

In this particular context: good grip, wet and dry, long life, MX5 handles well on them.

Good value, too, also from Camskill: http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m53b0s...

Is anyone running Toyo R1R's yet?

http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m12b0s...

Twice the cost of T1R's but still a little cheaper than Advan AD08's

http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m53b0s...

The reason I ask is that the AD08's are OEM on Lotus Elise's now, and the 888's are popular as track tyres but aren't too good in standing water. I'm probably 2k mls off needing a new set, and with a couple of trackdays likely I'll be giving something new a go after. I may chuck a bit of cash at one of these to see if they're worth the extra over the T1R's.

I've got Hankook Ventus V12 K110 (as run in the Ma5da racing) on mine and think they're brilliant (mainly track). And at around £35 you can't go wrong

Hankook RS2 are worth a look for cheaper trackday tires. Been fairly impressed with their performance compared to T1r's.

They're comparable to a T1-R, but I certainly wouldn't use them on anything remotely heavy. Definitely a lightweight car tyre - hence I've had them on my 205 GTI (fronts did 8k miles - compared T-1Rs that did 6.5k, Goodyear F1s 10K and A539s 5k) and MX-5.

Well regarded on Renaultsport forums for the R26 Megane's in particular.
