As a continuation of my 'Supercharging a Mk2.5' thread I'm continuing to think through options and insurance is a big consideration at my age!
Who are you guys using for your insurance?
I've punched in details on my current car as a baseline on moneysupermarket and modifying it brought that up by 2.2 times!
Options at the moment are S2000 (haven't driven one yet, but insurance is pricey), Boxster (driven one, loved it, insurance pretty reasonable) or supercharging the '5... scratchchin What to do?!

What would you say was your main priority? I have ran an '04 S2k for 2 and a half years and now have the turbo'd 5. (For the purposes of my post, I'm assumming an SC '5 is broadly similar to a turbo'd 5).

Insurance *is* pricey on the S2000. I enjoyed mine but as standard it just wasn't that exciting a drive. It never really felt that quick either, it was, it just didnt have the sense of speed you get from an FI'd 5. Nice interior, but can be a tight fit if you're a big 'un. The electric roof is awesome (6 secsonds baby!). Mine had an aftermarket exhaust so sounded REALLY nice when VTECing.

My FI'd 5 @ 200bhp /193lbft certainly feels a lot quicker. Better handling too. The interior isnt as nice, and it doenst have a big red starter button. Hugely modified if costs me half what the s2k did to insure. (Maybe not a fair comparison, I've got older and moved house).

FWIW though, I do still look whistfully at the black s2k in the work car park...

Modifying takes it's toll on insurance when you're also using for work and higher milaege. I've found the limited milaeage policies to be fairly reasonable, in my case cheaper than insuring a standard MX5 at for SDP use only!

I used to use "Competition car Insurance" who I think also traded under the name "Egger Lawson".

They were very helpful, and as there main business is race / rally cars, the modifications are no problem. However, no modified car is going to be as cheap to insure as if you had not modified it.

More noise would be nice! That's about it really... The extra performance of the others would be nice, but I'm not bothered by it.
As an extra curve ball, I'm test driving an RX-8 230 tomorrow. That and the MX-5 would be nice... scratchchin

Mine is mildly modified - induction kit, roll bar, harness bar, bucket seat, upgraded brakes, offest numberplate, smoothed front bumper and a few other bits and pieces. I'm with Footman James which costs considerably less than insuring my wifes C-Max.

I've had mine on classic insurance for the last few years which is much cheaper. I'm still covered for commuting although it is garaged and on a limited mileage (5000 miles I think). Premium is around £300.

CCI are excellent for modified cars, especially if you want track insurance and want a limited miles policy. I used them for several years with modified Lotus Elise's, and have my Mk1 Eunos Roadster insured via them.

Thanks chaps.
I'm seriously considering supercharging my car instead of changing it, I just need to find reasonable insurance before I start the mission. smile
