Hi folks,

Had a stupid stupid low speed fender bender today in the '5.

Damage on the n/s wing and bumper distorted and scuffed slightly. Front of wheelarch was pushed close to the tyre but I pulled it back into shape easily enough.

Drives straight, lights pop up and down fine, no running issues (in fact it's running beautifully having changed the oil yesterday banghead), and all other panel gaps look fine. Bonnet and doors not catching.

Is there anything under the skin that could be damaged, or can I get away with just a wing and bumper from a scrapper?

Cheers all.

Unlucky, sorry you've pranged it.

Doesn't look too bad, you have to punch the bumper in a fair bit before you hit the chassis. I reckon it'll be fine with a new wing and bumper.

I have some experience in this area....

As above the main structure will be fine. It's a long way back from there. There are some little bits under there that offer support to the wing/bumper mounting. You may have bent them. Mine are...er...no longer connected.

It also cracked my washer bottle. But yours might be on the bulkhead rather than the front bumper?

I recently pulled the front wings off mine when I was having the sills done - there are only a couple of thin metal brackets behind the front of the wing that the nose cone bolts through - mine were rusted away to almost nothing so I remade them from a couple of ali offcuts and riveted them onto the inner wing, so I can't imagine that it should be too hard to fix that dent beyond getting the wing itself sorted.

If there is any deeper damage I would have thought you could see any deformation by opening the bonnet and looking past the headlight to the inner wing.

Cheers, I had a look but it all seems straight:
