Hi all

As per title really, started driving car home from work today and all of a sudden i had no throttle response at all, totally dead but the electrics were still ok, then it all died, pulled over and on first turn of the key it fired up again. I carried on for another 2 minutes when it happened again, this time it didnt fire up until around 3-4 minutes later. I left car for 5-10 minutes then drove the remaining distance home, around 5 miles and it happened again, yet again firing up on first try.

The car was not over heating, the oil level is good and it has a half tank of fuel. The only thing that has changed recently is i have had a new exhaust as well as doing a minor service last week including plugs, leads, oil and filter change as well as air filter.

Car is a 1998 Mk1 1.8iS, UK car, only mods are MX5 parts 'Performance' leads and long reach spark plugs.

Thanks in advance folks

Edit to add: Title is supposed to say thrice smile

Can somebody shed some light on this or at least guess..... im proper stuck frown

Can you smell fuel when you try to restart? Any other running problems? Sounds like ignition or a sensor to me...

Does your car have an engine immobiliser fitted? If so, that could be playing up, cutting in intermittently.

Cant smell fuel or anything and it runs fine up until the point it cuts out. I got a feeling its a fuel issue, if i leave the car standing then start it, it will idle fine until it starts to move then it cuts out.

It all started when i had over half a tank of fuel, now im down to under a quarter and the car wont drive more than a few hundred yards without cutting out, if im lucky frown
