Afternoon

Looking to purchase a Mk 2.5 MX5, going to view it again this afternoon, Euphonic special edition.

My Mum has a Montana special edition with Air-Conditioning, and I think it's on the arctic edition and other cars do have it.

Is it possible to retro-fit AC to the car? New parts available or used? Is this a stupid idea and will cost the earth?

It's not a neccesity, just would be nice on the really really hot days when in traffic or drying out the interior.

Thanks in advance.

Wouldn't it be easier to just buy one with a/c?

Most imports seem to have a/c. Look at Eunos

That tends to apply the Mk1, there are relatively few Mk2.5 imports about.

OP I would just hunt out one with A/C, I doubt it would be cost effective to retrofit it.

If you really want AC then look for a car that has it. I wanted it and found one quickly enough. I had to go all the way to Southend from Wokingham to get it but it's worth travelling to get exactly the spec you want.

Oh, and Eunos (Eunos Roadster in fact, there are other Eunos cars) only applies to Mk1. From Mk2 onwards JDM cars are Mazda Roadsters wink

Thanks for the info guys, I thought that would be the answer but worth a try.

I put a deposit down today, rather excited, picking up this week or start of next. Wasn't essential for AC and this car is in really good condition.

Thanks Jonny. Im looking forward to some proper motoring!

If you had a spare moment I'd still be interested to know how much, more for comedy value by the sounds of replies on here. Don't break your neck over it.

Very roughly..

Compressor; £930+VAT.
Condensor; £515+VAT.
Pipe; £150+VAT.
Pipe; £85+VAT.
Pipe; £330+VAT.

Thats without any clips, fixings, and some other random hoses..

I'm going to assume you don't want them ordering hehe

£565 + vat for "pipe"? No wonder you guys all have gold plated something something I've lost interest in this post now.

Having been stuck min a traffic jam on a closed motorway in 30C heat in an MX5 with no AC I can confirm that the above picture ought to be:

That's why I have AC in my current MX5 wink
