Calling all MX5s with loud exhausts! The local news the other week announced that the Hindhead tunnel is due to open in July. The tunnel, which is about 1.2 miles, will be the longest in the UK.

Since there is no official opening date I cannot say when this will be, but I'm hoping for August, probably an early Sunday morning. The idea is to meet somewhere like Ockham Common car park (~7am) and head off on a quick blast down the A3 through the tunnel, turning round at a junction on the other side to come back through again, where we'll then make our way through the Surrey/Hampshire/Berkshire countryside before finishing off for breakfast at about 9am.

Please add your name if you're interested in this event so that I can keep tabs on numbers.

If the run was starting at Ockham Common it would almost be tempting to do it on 7th August - Goodwood's Breakfast Club is on...

Not quite the airfield smile. Here's the nearest postcode: KT11 1ND. If you zoom out from your link it's just off the A3 opposite Bolder Mere lake on Old Lane.

I work 2 miles from the tunnel.. wink

That Airfield is currently being dug up by diggers for houses or some other rubbish. I've already been up there to see about having a mess around on it frown

I don't know what a Quantum RS Turbo is, but it's got to be the most manly sounding name for a car ever.

I'll tentatively put my name down as it does sound like fun!

If we were going to do a tunnel run, might aswell make it slightly later on and do it through London also as Hindhead is only 25-30 miles from London.

Could meet near Hindhead, do a few runs through there and up to London for the ones up there..

Just to let you know I saw the three of the most dreaded words in the English language as I drove past the tunnel works the other day....

Useful as well if anyone might want to introduce tolls in the future...

Drove through the 19kn Frejus tunnel a few years ago in the TVR and was very disappointed to find a 70kmh limit frown, and a convoy vehicle who drove along in front of us. mad

I occasionally went into second to give the engine a break from 1st. hehe

Doh! I am always doing that. Going to the SW tomorrow and live in SW London... Actually work in Farnham so yes, I know where the tunnel is ;-)

Hey, are you hijacking my run?! London might only be 25-30miles away but it takes forever to get there. This is going to be a breakfast run, if you want to carry on up to London afterwards then that is fine biggrin.
