What sort of power is a 1996 top spec MX5 producing? Encountered a mint looking BRG MX5 with a cream interior tonight, surprisingly quick, It had BBS on the back with a PH Sticker. TBH I was in a hurry but it made up the space alarmingly fast.

( if it was you on the A2 to Dover about 16:30hrs (distinguished looking chap!) It was nice to see some really good driving from a fellow petrolhead. 60secs of super efficent driving! wink )

BBS? Are you sure it wasn't BBR? Having said that, BBR Turbo was an earlier 1.6 thing.

Mk1 1.6 (JDM and UK to 94) = 114bhp
Mk1 1.6 (UK only from 95) = 88bhp
Mk1 1.8 (all markets 94 onwards) = 128 to 133bhp (depending on year/market).

Mk1 1.6 BBR Turbo = 150bhp

Aftermarket = anything from below stock to whatever money can buy!!!

If you mean the new one, that's a completely different thing. I don't think it even uses a BBR turbo!

BBR Website said:
BBR enhanced complete Mk1 Mazda MX-5’s unveiled

BBR has also responded to demand for an upgraded Mk1 MX-5 model, which combines outstanding engine performance and chassis dynamics. BBR’s brief was to produce a carefully enhanced high-powered Mk1 MX-5 that combines great handling, civilised road manners and awesome trackday capabilities in all weathers.

As such, BBR is now able to supply renovated, 220 bhp plus turbocharged Mazda MX-5 Mk1’s featuring full leather seats and a paint finish in a colour of the owner’s choice. Prices start at £7,500 and BBR is pleased to offer a list of cost options available for the discerning MX-5 owner, including:

A big brake kit including larger calipers
A limited slip differential
A longer final drive (for relaxed motorway cruising at lower revs)
Larger diameter alloy wheels
Further power upgrades
BBR’s revamped Mazda MX-5 Mk1 turbo is a pleasure to drive in all road conditions, providing 21st century style pace with the classic, tactile driving experience that’s unique to the world’s most popular sportscar.

That's the 'new' BBR which uses a BEGi kit and puts a BBR badge on it.

There were different revisions of the 'original' BBR, phase 1,2 and 3 IIRC. barely any were sold though. Pjhase 2 was around 200bhp and phase 3 around 250bhp

even original BBR's, i guess quite a few of them won't be standard anymore. i'd say it's much more likely you saw an old BBR with different ECU and injectors rather than a new one.
