i am thinkingabout joining up to the mx5 OC. i have a couple of questions for those who are members on here.

£33 a year, what do you actually get for this?
is there a new members pack? ie, car stickers, books etc?

On the face of it you don't get a lot. Club calendar, secure tax disc holder (one that destroys the tax disc if you try to peel it off), possibly a keyring... But you also get free entrance into the club rally (I think) and discounts at various shops and insurance companies.

With most clubs you get a decent forum.
You get contact with others who may be able to help if you need it.
Invites to track days.
Other members will trust you on adverts and hence you tend to get more when you sell and what you buy will most likely be good.
My Dolomite sprint was used for a photo session at Curborough and the magazine kindly put us up in a hotel and we got to hoon round Curborough for free, the invite came via the club. (obviously I am talking clubs in general)

No.

If you really really really want to see, join the forum for free and spend your money on a subscription to a proper magazine like Evo instead of one written by OAPs for OAPs.

Then when you realise it's crap, join Nutz.

You can usually get a discount off your insurance which adds to more than the membership.

Certain Adrian Flux, REIS, Footman James will all recognise the club and offer discount if you are a member.

Not joined myself as yet, but thinking about it.

What he said. I joined first time round, waste of time.

Join Nutz, for free. Get to some meets, make some friends, and be an 'active' member on the forum and its great. Like any forum theres quabbling and dribble, but under the skin (much like PH) there is a large membership of knowledgeable, smart, helpful and friendly people.

We thought about joining MX5OC but no response to two emails to the local co-ordinator, can't really be bothered. Friends have joined and have got a lot out of it but they are in another area.

Agree with the others that nutz would always be my forum of choice.

Whilst joining the OC does allow discounted insurance, I've never had an insurer ask for proof; tell them you're a member regardless.

We give 10% off the oil and labour at my dealership for MX5OC members.

Though at 5 years old you get 15% discount on labour anyway hehe

Not my kind of forum, imo.

I saved £70 off my insurance quote with Footman James by being a member - it was the only reason I joined. I then bought a new bucket seat from Demon Tweeks a week later and saved £15 with the 10% discount.

To be honest i am still waiting to see any benefits from joining as yet, i can get into the rallies for free anyway ,the mag that you get every 2 months is of no use to me, my insurance is cheaper than the club schemes anyway, all my parts are cheap,i don't need to go to any garages for repairs.
So for my cash i get a window sticker for only one of my roadsters, that reminds me i need a couple of nutz stickers.
value for money, not in my eyes, but i have been told that it's because i don't go to the meets that i will never feel the benefit????i wish i had the time to, to be honest.

I've just joined, so will let you know how it goes. However, so far being a member got me insurance cheaper than anyone else (cost of insurance, plus joining the club was still a tenner less than any other quote) so I figure it's almost like free membership for the first year.

They do discounts on driving days through MOT (Mazda on Track) and I was thinking of doing one of their handling days, has anyone been on one? I like the idea of it as have never driven a rear wheel drive car properly before and it doesn't seem too pricey.

Just bought an MX5 myself, was having a chat with my father, who is a member of the Club, has been for years, and still keeps up his membership, even though he now lives in Australia, I was asking him if it was worth joining, he was saying that you can just join the forum for free, where you can get all the technical infomation, and ask any questions etc that you have.
I know that when he was in this country they had a fair few technical days, where a few of them would get together and do various bits and bobs!
As to the "road trips" they did tend to be made up of the elder generation, not sure if that was across the whole club, but certainly the region he was in.

If there's one issue with the owner's club it's that the demographic is heavily weighted towards those 'of a certain age'. But at least they aren't obsessed with fitting wheels with stupid offset and camber wink

I would gladly pay twice the subs as I get good value, especially from stuff like tech days where you can save £££ by doing something yourself under the supervision of somebody that knows what they are doing. Oh, and Monday night GT5 MX5 on-line racing smile

Having said that I seem to be in an very active region of the country, I can imagine that in other areas you might be left wondering what you are paying for.
