Need a welder to help me with floor pans Banstead Surrey
Discussion
Can anyone help, I have the new sheet metal floor pans I bought a small mig welder with the small gas bottles but i'm struggling as Ive not done welding before, I need someone local ish who can give me a hand correctly welding in new front floor pans and a couple of other bits, I have been let down by so many people over the years I don't really know how to move forward. Car is currently a non runner so I cant drive it anywhere, I need someone mobile. When i use google all i seem to get is people that are interested in welding RSJs on building sites or repairing Iron gates. thanks
Car mobile welding is virtually extinct now
Modern cars really don’t rust,
Floor pans by there very nature are generally large areas
So will consume lots of wire and gas,
Now a small low power welder is ok but if you’re using the tiny gas bottles from Halfords etc it will be very expensive!
Depending on what car it is looking on Facebook for similar cars locally will probably find someone who will help you,

Surrey is too far for me sorry, what car is it?
Are you trying gas or flux core and how tidy do you want the job to be?
My advice would be find somewhere like a hobbyweld supplier for gas and ask them if they know someone who would give you some pointers.

Cool, the sort of car that will have been tackled loads of times.
Look on YouTube for how other people have done it, what to cut and the order to do it all in. Once you've seen a few videos of the process it will hopefully all start to make sense and put your mind at rest about how simple floors are to do.
Anything can be made to look good with a grinder and underseal and the other side is going to have sound deadening and carpet on it.
The welding side is easy and just takes a little practice, it's just a balance between enough penetration to melt it all together and not so much that it melts a hole. By the time you've been at it for an hour you'll figure it out.
I highly recommend using gas and not flux core, find some scrap metal and practice for a bit. Honestly it's easy to make something structurally solid, the thing that takes time and skill to learn is to make it look good and to do it at a decent speed. Floors are the perfect opportunity to learn because it will mostly be hidden, grind the rally bad welds tidy, seam sealer and underseal hides it all
