Regular cab short bed V8 trucks. Super expensive!?
Discussion
I have a cheap 97 F150 V8 auto reg cab with short styleside bed to smoke around in.
For early 2026 I fancy a newer version (2014) and could barely find anything from GM, Ford or Toyota with less than 80k miles on USA auto trader, car gurus, etc. the ones I found were $25k. By the time it is shipped, Vat and import paid it will be nearly £30k.
Do the USA sellers expect a good beating or is the country not in as much of a financial mess as we are led to believe and people over there are dropping $25k on a ten year old truck!?

Dunno.
But I thought Toms poverty spec, 2 door, white, steel wheel V8 F150 was just fantastic in stock form. What a truck for the money.

I started to look for something like that too to import, seemed £20k was possible for something 5 years old, XL or XLT would be the one.
American Aurtotrader turned up a few results.

Pretty much all new trucks sold in the US are either extended cab or 4 door cabs these days. A regular cab is either a low spec work truck (like Ford’s XL trim) or a custom order for a customer. They are rare and tend to get wholesaled to smaller dealers, many whom don’t have an online presence.
You can find them, but it will take time. If you make an extended cab work in your area ( size wise) of the UK, you’ll have many more trucks to choose from.

I m not surprised. Prices are super expensive right now and have been for a while.
Facebook Marketplace is where I ve found decent deals recently but they move reasonably quick. Anything at a dealer will be spendy.
That being said, often miles are easy miles.
What trim level do you want?
ETA: consider either a 2015 or 16. There was a newer shape around then from memory.

I don't need anything too flashy however must be a V8 and have my heart set on a regular cab and 6.5ft bed. Needs to be really clean, no old work truck.
I will probably add some modular style wheels and chunky A/T tyres when here.
2wd is fine I don't intend to off-road it or use it for any serious work.

Just to confirm, when you say the 6.5ft bed that's normally the middle length of 5ish, 6.5ish and 8ish?I will probably add some modular style wheels and chunky A/T tyres when here.

The majority of regular cab trucks will be work truck configuration and likely to be long beds as that's how they will be used. As expensive as new trucks are these days, people prefer an extended or crew cab if they're going to load them up with options. I will probably add some modular style wheels and chunky A/T tyres when here.

I just went to the GMC website and punched your specs for a new one. They do option a 5.3 in a new regular cab 2WD configuration, but you'll have to order it that way. The nearest regular cab 2WD to me that's on a dealer lot is 425 miles away and it has the turbo 4 cylinder motor.
I'm in Dallas Texas. If you can't find the truck you want in Texas, you should probably look for something else.
This has been up for over 6 mths and would accept $11k.
Not too worried about some clear coat tarnish and a good slosh over the undercarriage with lanogaurd should keep rot at bay. Don't know much about the smaller V8

4.8 should be a good motor as it does not have the cylinder deactivation which can cause lifter problems. This generation had cheaper interiors so dash tops tend to implode and the panels are molded where if you need a door handle, you would have to replace the whole panel.
I'm not sure if those are problems in the UK given the cooler climate.

That's not a 6.5 bed , more like 5 .Not too worried about some clear coat tarnish and a good slosh over the undercarriage with lanogaurd should keep rot at bay. Don't know much about the smaller V8
