I have one of these and it does the job nicely:

They also do a single watch winder for about £20

I've got one of the twin Time Tutelary ones and it's actually pretty good, very quiet and fairly robust.
I've also got an Official Time Van Gogh Series 6 watch winder which is very nice indeed, beautifully finished.
I think as long as you make sure the winder does the correct amount of turns (I use an additional time switch on mine) they are ideal, especially as mentioned above if you have something with complications!
I have a Breitling Navitimer Olympus and it's a bugger to set when it stops as it has a day, date, month and moon phase and only needs adjusting every 4 years as long as it keeps itself wound!
I like all my autos wound and ready, in the mornings I like to 'watch and go'!!

If you have a watch with complications like moonphase and/or day and months then a watch winder means you don't have to reset it every time you wear it.
If it is a non date or a date then most only take a few seconds to adjust and keeping it on a winder isn't really necessary.
^ This. Really cannot see the point of a winder for anything less than a moonphase. If it is a non date or a date then most only take a few seconds to adjust and keeping it on a winder isn't really necessary.
I've got two single winders for two of the Autos I want to wear regularly, but not every day. Another, a Seiko SKX009 beater that doesn't get worn often, I just leave to run down.
It's really nice to be able to pick up a watch and wear it straight away, no hassle at all. Mine came from eBay and I have them hooked up to a plug timer, so they run during the day only and shut-up overnight
