I'm the first to admit I know very little about watches, but I've always hankered after a seamaster like the ones in the ebay links below. The trouble is, I've no idea if these cheaper examples are likely to be any good or not, but they are just the type of thing I am after.

Any help in finding a reputable seller at about that price bracket would be appreciated...or if anyone has used this seller?
Cheers

If I wanted one, I would watch the auctions and look out for one with an original dial. I'm not an expert, but the movements look ok to me. I was looking for one once, but ended up buying a 70s Tissot instead. Here's a few of the things I read to look out for:

The brassy coloured parts should all be the same tone as each other.
Mismatched or rusty screws.
The pieces that hold the movement in place should be present. There's one missing from the first watch you posted.

You can look up a few details about vintage Omegas using their database (link below). You have to register, but that doesn't take long. I found that the best way to search was by using the calibre number.

The 2 examples you give are really quite expensive and you can necer be that sure if ebay fodder. You may get lucky or you may not.
I paid about 200 for my black day/date seamaster a year or so ago from TZ

The first one whilst it has the right movement and case numbers (both probably 1959/60) is very unlikely to have left the factory with a black face, if it did it wouldn't be that shiny. Kindly put its been over restored and of mixed provenance, unkindly its a fecked frankenwatch. I personally don't think its worth 110 let alone the 310 he's asking.
The second one is more of of mismatch, case and movement dates don't match case model number is a geneve etc, but at least they come clean on painted dial, however steer clear unless its a daily stter for 25squid.

look at the private adds on the bay, don't be too frightened if the seller doesn't have a long history if it's a family watch recently come into, your exposure will be lower (100 or so) and you'll beat the dealers before they polish it and put a 200+ mark up on it.
Sadly gold versions are getting silly as the gold is worth more than the watch now this in turn gives a bit of a market to those wishing to put a good movement into a stty watch. Don't foreget in this era, Omega were making most things in house and were one if not the top brands, more so than today.

Not black dial but ticks most of the boxes for a genuine 1963 Seamaster of that period, (dial maybe a bit too white) its even a dealer in the UK and not private, so added insurance. Interesting to see what it goes for ~200 perhaps?

I recently bought a '70s Seamaster with a steel bracelet and a grey face and I reckon its one of the best looking watches money can buy. Goes with any clothes, smart or casual, and wont age like a lot of the modern Omegas. For £300-400 I say go for it.
