The OH is fancying a watch with a ceramic bezel and strap, but I'm concerned that it'll shatter if it's dropped on a hard surface, such as a tiled floor. Is this likely or are they made from a type of ceramic which is resistant to such an impact?

Yes, the ceramic is hard and it is brittle at the same time.

However the same could be said of the glass.

Indeed the same could be said of the glass, though usually that's protected it by whatever's surrounding it. I've dropped my watch on a tiled floor with no ill effect on the glass.

Interesting, thanks. Knowing the OH I really think she shouldn't be buying a ceramic watch then!
