Well this is my first post in the watch section of pistonheads but I do occasionally browse.

Anywho, I've just purchased a seiko 5, it's a military style version in black.
Does anyone else have one?
What are they like to live with and are there any issues with these to watch out for?

Pretty rock solid watches for the money smile

Shouldn't have any issues with it really, the movement is basic but rugged and used in many other models and should see many years of service without ever having a... err... service hehe

Plenty of use have them, they're a cracking watch! thumbup
Just avoid changing the date between 9pm-4am (or thereabouts) and it should be fine.
Still really like mine!

I recently bought one of these cheap to satisfy a blue watch craving, I assume that yours is the black version?

Anyway, no problems so far. I only wear it 1/2 times a week.

Correct, it's the black version.
Bought it to use as a daily rather than the lorus chronograph I'm currently using. Don't want to wear the lorus out wearing it everyday and didn't want to spend more than £50.
By sounds of it I've made a gd choice.

Anyway, no problems so far. I only wear it 1/2 times a week.

I don't have a military one.
But I do have a SS with gold markers & hand set on a SS bracelet.
I've had it serviced once as I cracked the plexi-glass and needed it replacing anyway and that's it in 24 years.

Sorry long story short, they are tough buggers and stand the test of time (pun intended)

Mine has been like a cockroach - I've bashed it rock-climbing, swum in the sea with it with quite some enthusiasm; dropped it from high up when abseiling, almost lost it in the sea, bashed it against slippery rocks during cave explorations, driven over it-twice-in a car, kicked it, bashed it against just about everything hard nearby when working on cars or bikes... To summarise I haven't been very kind to it and as a result the face glass is scratched with lots of micro-scars, the bracelet has quite a funky patina of wear but despite this neglect it tells the time well and hasn't let me down.

I've been very impressed with it and when I come to upgrade, Seiko will be at the top of my list. smile

Been looking at these for a little bit and wondered if someone could answer this....

There seem to be two different types of the same watch, those made in Japan (costing more) and those made in Asia (which some sites seem to bemoan). The difference is in the serial No (J and K I think). Is the uplift for a Japanse made version worth it?

Example:

No idea about the differences but Creation Watches (who have a good rep around here) can do you one a lot cheaper than that here

I recall paying about £20 or so on ebay for it, reasoning that for such a small cost it didn't matter much if it did get damaged or broken. Despite everything it has been subjected to, it still works as well as the day it was delivered although I'm not entirely sure how. hehe

Mine won't be getting the same abuse as yours but it will be worn almost every day. Sounds like it's the right watch for the job. Can't wait for it to be delivered!

Anyone know anything about the-watch-store.com?
I ordered it from them as creation were sold out and they were the only retailer I could find offering the same price.
