After wearing a Tissot PRC 200 chronograph for 4 years as a daily, it is time to get myself something else.
My budget is around the 600 mark, open to used buys also.

I like the speedmaster, Monaco, carrera, submariner, Oris miles and dare I say Corum Admiral style watches. Unfortunately all of these are out of budget and the default choice for something decent in the similar style is CW.

So fellow PH watch nuts...anything else of decent quality and price other than CW you can recommend? I dont have a lot of Knowledge about watches except that most of them use ETA movements and something better would be Valjous movements. So good build quality, good automatic movement in the styles I mentioned around 600 mark other than CW would be a good choice for my next purchase.

Thanks in advance!
Bobby

I'd look at Sinn for that money new, or go 2nd hand for something nicer.

Several Hamilton's are reduced at Ernest Jones. No I don't work for them, I asked the PH Massive, who like them:

You also mentioned an Oris Miles- check chrono24.com for a few well within your budget. Love the look of those numerals!

I have seen an Oris miles on chrono24....how do I check it out and how do I purchase from there without getting a dud or getting shafted? The piece looks clean and neat as mentioned it is a 2005 watch and going around my budget of 600ish.

Go with a reputable seller (ie a professional with their own site/ preferably physical shop) with an established track record on there. You can contact them for close-ups or whatever other info you need. Naturally you may have to factor in currency fluctuations to the exat price you pay if going abroad. If spending "big bucks" then I always think it's worth a cheap flight (after you've put a refundable holding deposit down).

If I was buying from a privateer I would only do so in the UK, and would probably go to meet them.

Cracking watches, divers Steinharts. If you can get over the old homage thing then go for it, the Ocean GMTs and Vintages are great VFM.

Meh...its the quality that matters..homage thing is just nuts because the same diver design is used by the top brands too! So are chronograph designs and the rest of them!

Well the quality isn't too shabby either, never owned one myself (something that I'll rectify at some point) but I've heard nothing but praise smile

I'm not in the market for a watch - but that looks lovely. I've not heard of Steinhart - who makes their movements?

Tell the Mrs it's a fake.

Bobbylondonuk - looks great. How does it feel? Does it keep good time?

Anybody else got one and have any views on its feel and time keeping?

Monkey - I have the Ocean 1 GMT Black/Red and must say I've been well impressed. Nice weighty feel to the watch, decent bracelet and clasp. Keeping good time at the moment... maybe gaining a minute or so a week. Bought from Neil at Chronomaster.co.uk who's a UK Steinhart dealer... price slightly cheaper than the Euro conversion price on the Steinhart site.
