£2k budget- suggestions- special watch
Discussion
I have around £2k to spend on my next watch, and it needs to be on something nice, so please chip in with suggestions/pics.
doesnt have to be brand new, i have bought 9/10 rated watches from Blowers in the past, and dont mind pre-worn if immaculate.
already have a couple of decent watches but was thinking along lines of maybe a heuer monaco blue face (original in budget?) or later re-issue, or something seamaster planet ocean like / along those lines, but willing to consider anything in that budget limit area.
its to be a gift from my parents so something i will be keeping for good.

What's important to you about it? Simplicity? Complexity? Colour combination? Materials?
2k buys a lot pre-owned, from the elgantly dressy IWC range, http://www.chrono24.com/en/iwc/portofino-automatic... to something completely bonkers http://www.chrono24.com/en/glycine/airman-7-plaza-...

If a gift from your parents I would choose a few of your favourites and then ask their opinion and come to a decision as it will have greater sentimental value if they were part of the selection process.
Your choice, like everyone else's, is down to personal preference so perhaps some examples of watches you like or some characteristics you do/don't like.
Personally, I'm looking at buying an Omega Railmaster to add to my collection (a few Omegas, a couple of Breitlings and a few other cheaper watches)
Best of luck.

saw a picture of a railmaster today, liked the look, what size are they as it looked quite big?
unfortunately the choice is entirely mine, my mum is terminally ill and quite poorly, so its a pretty much final gift, for me to choose, she wont be able to pick one much as i'd like her to!
with that in mind i want it to be something special i will treasure, and i'm partly tempted to part ex another watch i already have worth prob about the same amount, and get something bigger budget, like a nice panerai which i have always liked or an original heuer etc, something that isnt run of the mill.
hence any suggestions being considered at this point. ideally it will be something that not going to lose loads in value, altho it wont be sold i dont want to think i am wasting the gift etc by buying one that cant be passed on in future to family etc.
quite like panerai, i like iwc but havent seen anything decent in £2k value range second hand, hence thoughts of a trade in.

i like clean and simple normally, seamaster planet oceans have always been a favourite and the iwc look.
Truly sorry to hear of your mother's illness.
This Railmaster is 49mm in diameter and whilst I love the look of it, I think it would be too big for me though I'm yet to try one on.

There are others that are smaller at around 39 or 42mm:

or

I think this is the one I'll be buying!
Another quite nice idea might be to search for a classic watch from the year of your birth, it then has a great link with your parents. I recently purchased an Omega Speedmaster (pre-professional and obviously pre-moon) from 9 Dec 1964 (authenticated and certified by Omega); I was 11 days old when this was manufactured.

thanks for that. its very sad coming to terms with it tbh and i want to take time to make the right choice with this purchase as it will be pulling my heart strings every time i wear it.
spent an hour now looking at some lovely stuff on the chrono and blowers websites.
portofino hand wound is lovely but way outside budget(s)
like that railmaster, would like to see one on the wrist with its size altho i do have a 46mm watch which wears well

Some suggestions
Chopard Mille Miglia XL GT: http://www.chrono24.com/en/chopard/mille-miglia-gt...

Zenith El Primero Rainbow: http://www.chrono24.com/en/zenith/chronograph-rain...

Alternatively, the Omega Planet Ocean is a lovely watch and a fine choice! As for Glycine, they're described as a watch enthusiast's best kept secret; Excellent build quality, decent movements and low S/H prices. Glycine have been based in Bienne since 1914 and are one of the last remaining independent watch manufacturers in Switzerland - I love my Lagunare Chrono 3837, with it's beautifully decorated Valjoux 7750 movement

have made a decision today that i will trade in an existing watch toward this purchase, so potentially the budget is as much as £4k max, which puts me in reach of a proper panerai, or maybe an iwc. Cant see the older watch getting much wear in light of this pending purchase, so might as well make it something special.
keep your suggestions coming thanks!

JLC Master Compressor Chrono (second hand)?keep your suggestions coming thanks!

For £4K, I'd be looking at Glashutte Original, JLC and IWC. I'd also be heading to Harrods/Old Bond St. to try a few on and then contacting Dom H on here to source my preferred watch

If I could afford it, a Mille Miglia would get my vote. You see many an Omega around, but I can't recall ever seeing a Choppard.
Now where was that lottery ticket, I hear you can win quite a lot these days ...

There have been a few of these for sale on TZ-UK for £3.2-3.4K, but they rarely appear on the for sale section. RRP new is around £5.6K
