looking at a second hand JLC tomorrow, what if anything can be done to check validity of papers and watch etc, bearing in mind amount of forged watches and boxes/papers you can buy?
same will apply no doubt to me if px'ing my rolex, i have obviously the original papers/box and invoice from blowers with case/serial no on etc.
whats best for both parties to be confident in genuine purchase from a private seller?

(bearing in mind i also own 2 extremely good homage watches i wear for work that can be scratched/knocked etc, without papers and boxes but many of the snide sites sell boxes and certificates! )

Main thing - buy from a trusted seller.

An authorised dealer should be able to verify the watch as genuine (or not), so you could arrange to meet there, then do the deal.

thanks andy. provisionally doen a deal on a JLC master chrono with Neil on TZ, seems to have a good history on there.
have case no and have seen watch and papers, is it worth checking case number with JLC at all just to be sure?
cheers

I'm "guessing" it was from neilf1965?

Unless I'm wrong, I'd say no further checks required.

I'd agree with Andy.
I've bought a reasonably high-end watch from Neil before (with no papers) and would have no hesitation in doing so again.

I think you would have to be MAD to pull a fast one on a fellow watch enthusiast that uses TZ PH Watchforum and the like, it would soon get around. I think that most on the aforementioned are great guys and you can deal with confidence. I have also noticed how many forum members on TZ have purchased watches back that they sold a few months ago. I have a theory and think we are just custodians the way we buy and sell pieces (well me anyway) You could look at it this way buy a watch Omega Rolex etc keep it in good nick sell it 1 or 2 years down the line you should get back nigh on what you paid hey watch rental
