New Watch........mechanical watch advice.....!
Discussion
Well I've finally done it.....! After ages of lurking on this forum I finally 'pulled the trigger' on a Seiko 5, which arrived this morning
though i've liked watches for a long time, i've only ever owned quartz before, so I'm asking beginners questions here:
Just how delicate are these things? I know they won't put up with abuse a quartz will, but how carreful does one need to be? I usually commute on a motorbike - is this likely to harm it in terms of vibration? What about road cycling?
And is there anything i need to do to care for it beyond occasional servicing?
So far really happy that I've 'popped my mechanical cherry' !
Thanks
Pip

Don't know how often you'll be wearing it but it may be the case that it winds down now and again if not worn for a day or two, other than that treat it exactly as you would any other of your past watches - it'll be OK
And I wouldn't be too concerned about servicing it either unless it starts to run slow/fast and it could well run for years, for how much the watch would have cost in the first place it may just be easier to replace

Fab, thanks for that. I should imagine I'll be wearing it quite a lot of the time - apart from if I'm doing anything particularly rough and tumble.

Working marvellously so far - I had expected it to be having a few histronics as I've read in a few places that they take a couple of days wear to 'settle down,' but to be honest for time keeping today it's been pretty much a match for the quartz watch I set it from this morning.
Another happy '5' owner so far!
