I have a water resistant fashion watch (D&G aka Timex rolleyes) which needs a new battery. H Samuel's said they would charge me £60 and 6 weeks to send it off to get the batt changed and a full service but no way in hell im spending that much money on a quartz watch and my local watch jewellers will just change the battery and leave the watch exposed to water damage and from experience they dont do a good job.

so is there any way of changing the battery myself and making a water tight seal or is there any place that does this and doesnt charge ridicules amount of money.

thanks in advance.

I had a battery changed in my casio waveceptor at Timpson the shoe repair place. They resealed it and gave me a guarentee for about £20 if I recall. For a cheap watch job done.

Buy a case remoeving tool from ebay and battery. aboiut 12£ for both.

I rub the seal with a light silicone grease these days but never had a problem when I didn't.

dont know. perhaps it might say in the manual if you have it.

or if you find out what movement it is you may be able to find out from that.

How wet do you get your watch? I my quartz watches are my ones for swimming etc etc but like I say been ok so far. Just be careful the seal does not bunch up when tightening the screw back. I think the grease helps stop that anyway.

by wet i mean washing hands/shower/swimming nothing major really. one thing i noticed is the back doesnt have any screws. one of those click into place ones. so not sure how well that will cope when sealed up.

il check the manual but i think its one of those useless generic ones, thanks for the advice though.

WHat is the depth rating? clip on backs can be a pain to remove and dont usualy have a goo deapth rating anyway. for swimming usualy recomended 100m at least

dont break the crystal when you push the back on again smile

At the rate that this 'expert advice' is changing, my 1000 metre professional diver's watch wont be fit for swimming in a year or twos time! Currently I daresnt wash my hands whilst wearing 200 metre professional watches, in case theyre spoilt.....

Amazing isnt it smile for years I went swimming with 30m and 50m watches and that included using them on diving boards and swimming at the bottom of the deap end never had an issue.(they all had screw on backs though)

luckily I have 4 1000m watches now for when I wash the car.

One other question, can i change my G-Shock battery myself or is it worth getting it done by a pro?? I have the battery and I'l soon get the tools, so I might as well do it myself unless its not recommended.
