It's probably safe to say that the majority of us here have a watch collection to some extent. Now, I'm sure some of us have heard the line, "you can only wear one watch at a time", which is true ... unless you're Diego Maradona biggrin

So, would you have the heart to sell all of your watches and invest in just one? Is this something you've already done, perhaps to obtain that grail watch a little sooner? If you did sell all of your watches, what would you get in place that would fulfil all your needs? What would you get that is affordable to you and what would you get if money was no object?

I'll also add that that watches with sentimental value are not to be included smile

Personally I like to wear a niceish watch daily. I have G shocks for work that I don't mind getting hot/knocked about etc but I could never invest everything in just one watch as it would just get ruined. I'd rather something toolish that can be worn daily casual or semi smart and something for best. As a minimum of course, having two watches is probably still not enough for me.

Seconded, OP is trolling.

(Money no object, MilSub. Gets better with age, wear it with a DJ = James Bond fancy dress. In my financialy restricted real world, Monster on a Watchadoo, or G Shock GW2000)

There there its ok its not real. You don't have to sell anything. Lol.

I was thinking this today on my way to work. I can't think of one watch that I want over others. I can see maybe as I get older going away from the sports steel watch and trying something a bit more classier but for now there are designs by all brands that I find appealing.

<comes out from behind the sofa> Phew!

Seriously, though, my tastes change like the wind. One day I fancy wearing something fussy and a bit big, the next day, I want a digital; the following week I might be in a vintage mood. I couldn't do just one watch.

I'd do something about this thread, if I could just stop my palms from sweating at the thought of having to stick to one watch.

For me it would be my Speedmaster Pro. However this would not be because it is the best all rounder, but because it has a great deal of sentimental value (it was bought with a small legacy from a dear relative) and therefore can never be sold.

ONE watch?!?!

>shiver<

At a push, I'd go with my black Monster. Best bang for the buck out there, good for casual, almost smart enough for... err.... smart, awesome bracelet, great lume, great build (for the £) and cheap enough that should I manage to break or loose it I wouldn't be left cursing too much and I could easily replace it.

It was also the watch that I started my collection with (courtesy of this very forum) and is the last one I'd let go.

tongue out

The thought popped into my mind after seeing a Glashutte Original PanoInverse XL for sale on the TZ Forums. The owner had traded in all 5 of his watches to obtain it ... At €20K, it was his way of obtaining his grail watch sooner in life. However, he's selling it as he cannot do with just one watch! hehe

To be honest, I think I could live with one watch (Well, perhaps for a year or so!) if it were a JLC or GO. I don't think I'd get bored of the design ... I love my PO and 3 years on, I still gaze at it for a few minutes every now and then.

It would boil down to the IWC Aquatimer (GST 3536) or the JLC Master Calendar.

I'd probably go for the IWC and then regret it immediately. Can I have just 1 watch per wrist?!!

I think I must be cured. I'm down to one watch, and it's going.

Bye watch forum frown

Yeah but no but. I don't know, I usually wear the same watch anyway, and the one before that for about a decade, but I enjoy collecting them - I stick to certain fields and try not to sell, so eventually I'm going to end up with a load of stuff I'd only wear occasionally; I suppose that sometimes you buy because it fits into the collection or is particularly interesting rather than to wear as a first priority. I like swapping about a bit on the weekend if I'm going out or have people around though.

I'd ideally like to end up with a few nice examples that exemplify my different fields of interest at the moment and in the future.

Perhaps one day I'll sell it all and get something top end, but at the moment I haven't really dug into the subject enough to get a good feel for what I would be looking for and what is out there.

I'd be happy with my Sinn for another few years to be honest, as far as a watch to wear all the time goes, but there's easily a dozen watches that I'd give my eye teeth for at the moment.

No way!

I could give up some, but not them all. eek

Mine are mostly cheapies anyway, so wouldn't raise much cash.

I've been thinking about a serious rationalisation of the collection for a while now as I just have too many. I'm with Pesty and about five is about right, probably:

Sports watch (digital with large display so easily seen while running)
Tough watch (G-Shock) for garden and beach
Dress watch
Diving watch
Smart work watch
Birth year watch
Another smart work watch

Unfortunately, that's a minimum of seven. Oh....

And even my wife has four watches now...

What's the last one to go then Al?

And surely you're not going to end up just using a mobile to tell the time...??
