Sorry to hear about this - its a sickening moment. By the way, are you the chap who has just posted about this on the IWC forum? Or has this happened to two people on the same day?!! I've had this happen a few times with Omegas (prompting me to get rid of them in the end) but never with my IWCs.

I have had the same problem with my IWC Porsche design Ocean.
The crown thread is easily cross threaded even by the most careful owner.
I have had to have mine replaced once in the year and a half i have owned mine.
This has prompted me to buy a winder so i only need to undo the crown twice a year (GMT to BST and back).

To play devil's advocate: this might be the first time its failed in the 30 years, or so, since it was built. Fantastic watch by the way!

Mine is only a year old and unfortunately I have to change the time many times a week due to International travel. Will take it in to get fixed on Monday but not impressed.

Bad luck but still a fantastic watch all the same.

There's a trick to avoiding ruining the thread. Apply pressure against the spring, rotate the wrong direction until you feel a subtle jolt - this will line up the thread perfectly.

Disclaimer: follow the instructions at your own risk; if the movement explodes and removes your head or you simple bugger up the thread, I am not legally responsible.
