Gone too far this time?
Discussion
I've an open mind about PVD/DLC custom watches, a few firms have made some ok pieces.
This AP in black works well.

This custom 116610LN is interesting. Forgetting the 'SBS' tie-in, I think the alterations work ok. I'd wear one.

However, this blacked out Patek 5712 is for me, going too far. It just doesn't work...

Here's the 5712 as left the factory....

Much better, don't you think?

It seems a travesty to me that when the original maker has to gone to the time and trouble to put all those lovely polished and brushed surfaces on the case, then hand finished and checked it to be perfect. In theory this sort of attention to detail is what we are paying for in the mid to higher end stuff. To then go and just PVD over all that work is unbelievably crass IMHO.

Rolex wont be so keen: theyll refuse to service it.
That's hardly the end of the world! Not directing this comment at you, but it does make me laugh when people use that as a reason they wouldn't buy a modded Rolex! Christ, it's your watch, do with it what you want. I don't like most Rolexs 'off the shelf', but if I like them a bit modified then so be it.
Rolex can shove it!
ETA And if I ever buy another Rolex, it is highly unlikely it'll ever be going to see them regardless of whether they'd service it or not!
