Monster randomly stopping
Discussion
Not having much luck with watches, first my Precista PRS-05 gave me no end of grief and was repaired twice under warranty (and I've no confidence the repair will even hold) and now my Seiko Monster has decided to develop a random fault.

The second hand keeps stopping at exactly 22 seconds past. If I give it a gentle tap it'll restart, run for a few minutes then stop again in exactly the same spot. The stopping is random, sometimes it'll run for half an hour other times it'll stop every minute unless I give it a tap to restart it.
I'm reasonably sure its wound up, (it lives in a watch winder when I'm not wearing it) and I've given it a gentle shake today to put some wind into it (AFAIK you can't wind a Monster using the crown).
Its perhaps just over 1.5 years old, so I don't think its overdue a service or anything.
Anyone else experienced this?
I do use my watches for timekeeping, so having an unreliable watch that does run, but can then be showing the wrong time is a real dissapointment. (for time critical stuff, I use my G-shock)
Not sure what to do. Is this something that an adjustment could fix, or is it likely to be a worn sprocket thats sticking?
Any advice gratefully recieved.
Cheers

I think this particular watch forum is populated by folk who like to buy watches rather than tinker.
There was a chap on here called Bry who fixed things, I think he helped a few on here recently.
Maybe someone has an email address for him ?
As far as I know he's not taking orders anymore. There was a chap on here called Bry who fixed things, I think he helped a few on here recently.

Since his site got taken down, I don't think there is a definite method of contacting him either.
cheers guys,
not sure what to do, can't quite be bothered to put it through a service as it didn't cost that much to buy from the far east.
I'll stick it back in the watch winder and see how long it keeps time for.
I don't have the tool that can open the case so I'm not in a position to tinker with it or I would try.

A local watchsmith should be able to sort that out with the minimum of fuss I'd imagine.
If you don't know anyone reliable/experienced then either Steve at RyteTime or Richard Askham at watchspotblog are generally recommended.
A full service from Richard is in the order of £120, to give you an idea.
Is there any mileage in sending it back to Seiko - I had a service done recently and it was about £60 all told.

Hi, a local watch repair place quoted 120 for a service too, but the watch was only £109 to start with so it seems daft to have it serviced. If you don't know anyone reliable/experienced then either Steve at RyteTime or Richard Askham at watchspotblog are generally recommended.

I'm sat here now having shaken it to make sure its wound and sure enough, it stopped the moment I put it on the table. Second hand pointing at 21 seconds.
I have just discovered its got a two year warranty with Creation, so I'll see how that pans out.
If that fails I'll have to investigate this rubber ball thing.
