buying watches. After my mammoth spending spree last weekend (Tissot, Tag Heuer, 3x Citizens and a cheapy for the daughter) I thought there was a chance I'd got the "wants" out of my system.

Er, no.

Bought a Christopher Ward C3 Malvern chrono last night. One of the cheapest of the CWL watches but I really like the look of it. Also, as I'm a newbie to the whole watch thing, I didn't want to spend too much on a "new" brand in case I don't like it. I know they do the 60 day return promise, but I like to keep things I buy as it's my mistake. Again (like MX5's) I'd never heard of them until I started reading PH, so it's all your fault if it all goes wrong!

I think I really like the ethos behind them (obviously the main one being to make money - they're not a charity) but they do seem to make a jolly pleasant product for a sensible price.

Be careful, if you must spend a lot quickly you will soon start wanting to sell some as you begin to realise where your preferences lie.

If everything you buy is brand new stuff from the High Street you will be very disappointed when you come to try and sell some.

It may be better to buy watches that hold their value like a vintage Omega Speedmaster or a vintage Rolex Submariner. These are perennialy popular and hold their values well.

Ebay is a good place to hunt them down, but be very cautious, some people post a link to the sale on watch forums and ask for comments from experienced collectors.

And of course watch forum sales pages are very good places to buy from but you need to be VERY quick, good bargains get snapped up in less than an hour.

Daren't go over there.... I'll be bankrupt before the end of the week. The dearly beloved is already giving me that "look" and my bedside table is getting a touch crowded. Spend most of the evenings perusing watches for sale and most of the night when I should be asleep admiring my current watches.

Amazing how my new Citizen glows more in the dark than the Tag, while the Tissot positively lights the room.

I seem to have got it bad!

Very good advice.

However, I don't intend to sell any of my watches, now or in the future. Don't know why yet (it takes a while for my mind to let me know what I'm up to) but I just intend to collect and wear. I'd like to get seven so I can wear one per day......

Already learing that I have a favourite out of the watches I bought last weekend and it's the Tissot surprisingly. I really like the Tag as well (definitely second place) while the Citizen is relegated to third place. I think this is mainly to do with the leather strap - never been a fan of straps - but as I didn't have one, thought it best to get one.

I think I'm going to stick to buying new watches as I'm mortally scared of buying a fake. Surprising (when you look) just how many brands are faked, both the Tissot and the Tag I bought are available for £115 on a certain site. May now just save up and get my credit card and spending under control and then buy a Breitling or other mega watch.

Though I'm begining to go off Breitlings.....

High-end Seikos are rather nice. I'll have a Marinemaster 300 please.

Sterling advice indeed.

You say that you have no intention on selling and that's fair enough, I started out the same. I bought one or two, then a few more, all from new, with no initial thoughts of selling. Then I became a member on TZ and bought a handful more, all pre-owned, pretty much as new and for a reasonable chunk less than retail. Then I realised (admittedly, very slowly realised!) that I wasn't wearing a few of them and that favourites were starting to shine through, and I'm starting to sell.
I don't think that I'll *ever* buy new again - unless it's to mark a *very* special occasion - knowing how much of a hit has to be swallowed, there's a huge choice of quality pre-owned pieces out there and I'd say that's where my money will be going on future purchases.

You bunch of losers. You only have two wrists. What kind of moron would have, say, 38 watches. Oh.
