I bought a Seiko 5 military after seeing the numerous recommendations on here. When it arrived i was delighted with it, it felt well made and suited my rather small wrists well.

Unfortunately I woke up this morning and it has developed an annoying rattle when it moves. Upon closer inspection it seems like the semicircle weighted bit in the back (I'm sure it has a more technical term hehe) is rubbing on something inside (perhaps the middle screw has come slightly loose allowing it to come off centre. It fell off my wrist recently when the pin holding the strap in place came out.

It's just enough to be annoying but I'm not sure if it's enough to justify sending it back to the chap in Hong Kong - especially now I've had it a couple of weeks, it was fine when I got it and I don't have any of the packaging. I'd have expected it to be a bit more hard-wearing though.

So is this a known problem with a simple fix or should I try and get it replaced by the ebay seller?

Some auto movements just have noisy rotors.

If the movement is doing its job properly (keeping good time) then you may well just have to make do.

Have noticed mine does rattle a bit although in fairness I've given it absolute hell due to a deep-down desire for it to break so I can replace it with a Seiko Diver of some description. The rattle hasn't effected the time-keeping and the thing still lives on in its cockroach like manner so I wouldn't worry about it unless it's annoying you enough. smile

I just thought they were meant to rattle a little. Mine does, or you can certainly hear the movement in the back of it. Seems fine to me though smile

Again, my Seiko 5 military has a noisy rotor compared to my Omega and Oris automatics, still works great though.

yep, i jumped on the seiko5 band wagon too, great watch, and yes it has got noisier, only slightly, not at all annoying, but still keeping excellent time.

50 quid still and an absolute bargain.

Thanks everyone. It was the fact it went from near silent to a bit rattly seemingly overnight which made me think I might have damaged it. As it is I've stopped noticing it now anyway. And yes, a bargin at the price.
