Having dropped my Breitling off at their service centre yesterday the kind lady in reception informed me the complete overhaul would take 8 weeks eek

As such I need a temporary replacement that will see me through and also be used going forward for outdoor use. I have had a look around the shops this morning and the only ones that caught my eye were in Timberland which I thought were well priced and had a 2 year warranty.

Criteria: leather or rubber strap, chrono would be nice, not bling in any way, not oversized (ala TW Steel hurl ) and preferably a white or silver face.

Cheers in advance biggrin

I'd go for a Seiko of your choice at that money. Perhaps a Tissot PRC200?

How about this? The RRP is within your budget but the sale price is well under, leaving you lots of money to buy a leather or rubber strap. I ordered a watch from them on Monday and had it on my wrist on Thursday, excellent service.

Outdoor use? Get something functional like a ProTrek or Suunto for that money. Altimeter, barometer (ie predict the weather) and compass. cool

I ended up up with this one biggrin

I did look online at a few of the makes with altometer's etc but thought they were a bit "cluttered" for my liking.

Just out of interest, how much is a full overhaul on a Breitling?

The Breitling web site quotes £372 for automatic chronographs but the nice lady who took my watch away said they may call if further work was necessary eek

Also, as recommended by Gary H above the servicing videos on the Breitling site are excellent

www.breitling.com/service

If anyone does own a Breitling that needs a service or overhaul you can drop it off at their service centre just outside Tunbridge wells. I was there on Friday and it is a rather cool place only identifiable by the Breitling clock on the outside wall. You need to call to make an appointment and they buzz you in on arrival to a nice reception area with a couple of settees where your watch is collected and your questions answered. There is also a large picture window looking into the service area which would put most IT clean rooms to shame.

I might push my luck when I collect the watch and ask if I can have a tour of the workshop biggrin

It appears that non stopped continual wearing for 7 years means it : "Requires a routine complete Overhaul rather than the lesser service" yikes
Same here. Purchased in March 2003 and worn continually since then all round the world, in and out of water, various temperature changes (+40 to -20) etc, etc. Not a dicky bird of a problem until a couple of weeks ago when it began to lose a few minutes of time every couple of days and I booked it into the service centre. The overhaul is £372 (not sure if that is VAT inclusive or not) and it might need a new crystal, which is extra, if a minor mark can't be polished out.

Bend over indeed.
