i have just walked into my local rolex dealer and they have a stainless steel rolex daytona with a black face in stock!!!! its a cancelled order, they will sell it to me but i have not kept up to date with current rolex list prices. so does anyone know if £7490 is correct and has anyone succesfully knocked them down on price??? Or is it a case that im lucky to have found one and i should snap it up??

'Lucky to Snap one up'?

They're hardly thin on the ground, are they.

There is only a waiting list for new ones from AD's - but about fifty three million of them available from people on AD's waiting lists. There are only three courses of action:

If you want it, and it is worth £7490 to you - buy it.

If not, haggle.

If they won't haggle, don't buy it.

Yes i know they are available but aren't being sold at a premium, which is why the demand for brand new ones is so high?

WTF isn't the dealer offering to the next person on the list who was after that spec?

Slighty OT but I can't help but think that part of Rolex's marketing strategy is to "treat 'em mean and keep 'em keen"

There are nightclubs/late night bars my way that'll have a queue outside them all night long regardless as to how busy they actually are just to create the impression that they popular.

It obviously works for them (Rolex, that is) and I'm not knocking their products as they are of an obvious quality, just think that, with the creation of a waiting list, they're basically doing the same.

But, as others said on here the waiting list is only to buy at list price. You could have one tomorrow (well on Monday morning) if you are prepared to pay a bit of a premium. Cheapest one I've seen recently is at £8,200, most of the usual suspects have them at somewhere round £8,500. I really can't see, from a personal point of view, that they are worth that much money. They are a quality piece, no doubt, but they are tiny by most modern standards, excessively blingy, and worst of all, it's hard to tell the time or read the chrono registers. At least on the one I have, which is a black faced one. If I could roll back time, I'd have bought something else.

There is no 'waiting' list anyone. Complete bks. It was probably ordered in that dial configuration that's all.

You can pick these up cheaper than list compared to 10yrs ago when eveyone had it down as a 'must have'. Only people that wear them these days are female B List celebs

Man up and get a Sea Dweller - at least you will know what date it is.thumbup

We need more posts like this. I'm not sure why the SD is getting hyped so much on all the fora I look at, but It's a good thing (that I bought mine before all the hype started). biggrin

Err, no. Have a look at the last ad, and then the one before that, which was a fire sale.

Everyone's getting their knickers in a twist over this I see!

I think that the RRP of the Daytona is £7,490.

Yes that is correct. For now anyway Rolex up their prices in the next month
And there is a waiting list for new AD supplied ones, I'm on 3 of them, simply because I want a new one registered in my name.

And it is the white faced ones which are more popular, as the ADs in my area reckon they can get black faced ones quite easily, but not white ones.
Interestingly in the far east the black face is more popular

White face will be more rare I read because its only the Daytona or the Explorer II that have white faces on the sport models IIRC.

I bought a White faced Daytona after being on the waiting list for over three years , ordered another for my son's 21st birthday which was a few years later.

His birthday was coming up and no sign of the Daytona so ended up buying him a SD.

The Daytona arrived about a year later.

Paid list price for both which at the time was £3670 iirc

The White one I wear from time to time , the black faced one has never been worn and is bnib.

I prefer my non date sub to be honest, and I wear that most of the time.

I was offered numerous Daytonas when on the waiting list , but subject to buying a solid gold watch at full list.

Clever Market manipulation by Rolex IMHO.

Forget the above GMT II launched with big orange hand!

Rolex must have a thing at reviving old classics

If you want one, then buy it. A price rise is said to be imminent (and even if it isn't, they are never far away).

The modern Daytona is nothing special, it has a nice movement but that's it. Personally I prefer the Omega Speedmaster, just the basic moon watch version. Although I think vintage is the way to go, look better and won't depreciate like a new watch.
