Hi All,

I've a vintage UFO that's in need of some TLC.

Can anyone recommend a repairer? One of the chrono hands has come off, and i'd really like the hands themselves replaced.

Thanks in advance,

Andy

Has anyone used this chap.

The website looks good, but a personal recommendation would be even better!

I've not used him but I know he has a very good rep over on TZUK. I would use him personally.

I can't tell from your profile where you are based.

Cephas Mckeough, St. James Road, Shirley, Southampton.
He has no online presence - just turn up at his shop for a quote.

You'd have good service from Steve at RhyteTime from what I've heard.

I'd personally recommend Richard Askham at http://thewatchspotblog.com/?tag=seiko - these are his 'Seiko' pages, as you can tell, he knows exactly what he's dealing with. Very reasonable rates too.

This guy is cheap, and the quality of his work is good, but he refuses to have a go at some of the more difficult stuff.

I've taken many watches to him, only to have them back a week later with nothing done, and an excuse along the lines of "the dial is glued to the movement" (which he has said about six of my watches, none of which have exhibited any sign of that when sent to a chap I use in the Cayman Islands), "the back is rusted shut" (I later managed to open it with a sticky ball) and "the strap you gave me isn't for this watch" (despite it being the one supplied with the bleedin' watch in the first place, and being able to fit it myself when I got back home). Oh, and "they don't make domed glass like this any more". So how come I've seen it on watches all over the place. Such as on that Citizen in your display cabinet?

He did manage to fix up my Grandfather's old Omega f300 beautifully though - brand new Omega signed sapphire crystal, ultrasonic clean and polish all over, movement serviced and new battery, running so well it didn't lose a second over a month. And all for just over £100. Grandad gave it to me as a wreck, I gave it back to him spruced up as an 80th birthday present.

I've used Steve at Rytetime and would not hesitate to use again. He just takes twice as long than what he tells you on the phone.
