Really liking the Nomos Glashutte Tangente model(s) but wondered how durable they are?

I'd like to wear it every day if possible rather than just for special occasions, would it stand up to this? I work in an office, not a building site by the way smile

Would be fine, I had the power reserve model for a while. Only small issue is the water resistance is only 30M so take a little extra care there.

Great, that's settled then. Not much chance of me getting it wet let alone taking it deeper than 30M smile

Another quick question, as this is my first decent watch is there any problem getting them repaired/serviced as they are a bit unusual?

I have one (amongst other things) - a Club Datum.

Ideally it will need to go back to Nomos in Germany every 3-5 years (depending on wear/usage etc) and if you buy one from an authorised dealer they can arrange all that for you.

I'd recommend that you try a few on, as some of them are quite delicate if you see what I mean. The Club models are a little chunkier and may be more suited as an every day watch.

Good luck. They are great watches and fantastic value considering the craftsmanship, in-house manufactured movements and exclusivity.

Ps the customer service seems excellent too - before buying mine I emailed them direct (in my rather less than perfect German) asking for a brochure. They sent me a catalogue of all the models, a wonderful thick book all about the company and watches, and a fancy letter (in English) inviting me to visit the factory.

Damm, now I've just found Junghans watches. Seem very similar to Nomos, German, elegant, simple design. Also Stowa but they don't seem to have anything available to end of November.

Sigh, more decisions to make now.

If you are anywhere near the Midlands you might want to check out this place:

http://www.stewartswatches.co.uk/

A small independent watchseller, run by a really nice bloke who knows his stuff. He sells Nomos and Junghans so you'll be able to have a good look and try on.

Thanks for that, I'm in Peterborough so not far from Leicester, would prefer to have a close look before parting with my hard earned cash so think a visit is in order.

Always good to support independent's too.

Of those, only Nomos make their own movements though.

Also Nomos will tend to be smaller watches than most others.

I have a Nomos Tangente and it's a great watch. I've had no problems with knocks or knocking it, probably as it's so slim. With regard to it being a 'small' watch (35mm), it actually looks bigger on the wrist as the bezel is only 1mm wide so has more visible face than some larger watches. It's so easy to read as a result. A firm favourite of mine.

A quick snap showing a full size SMP next to my Tangente. The SMP has a visible dial of 30mm, the Tangente 33mm.

(Red % denotes this Tangente as a LE edition if anyone is wondering!)

Think that's made my mind up, that Nomos looks stunning next to the Omega.

Well, just returned from Stewarts Jewellers in Leicester with a nice Junghans Max Bill piece. Nomos were lovely watches but couldn't quite stretch my budget this time. Next time though.

Highly recommend Stewarts, excellent service and very knowledgeable. Quite happy for me to stare at several watches side by side for ages while I decided smile

Nice choice.

I agree, Stewarts are great. Not a massive choice of brands but very good for the less well known stuff.

Beautiful watch - I believe Commander Jameson has one and when I saw his, I got one within a week! Enjoy it - they really are absolutely stunning. When I wear it, it usually gets loads of admiration (which is nice!)

Yes, it was his I first saw that made me look into them.

I was surprised on the size of the two to be honest, on paper the Nomos was thinner but in the flesh there wasn't anything in it. I think the Junghans domed cover means it looks thinner, plus it goes under the shirt sleeve easily.

Really chuffed with it, at the stage where I'm paranoid about knocking it though!

Picture on latest 'Incoming' thread.
