best place to sell gold
Discussion
I,ve been collecting anything gold for the last 25 years . On my grandfathers addvice some of the main bits he left me.over the years i have founds pieces of every thing from broken watches ring and few coins all damaged .5 x PAMP Suisse 100 gram Gold Bar which where inheritanced.i also have a few Platinum wedding bands .All damaged . I have took them to my local gold dealer but they said its to big for them to handle . he wouldn,t even weigh it all if i took it to him. There is not loads of scrap bits but the bars are probably worth more .I have weighed the scrap on small digital scales at the bank. This make up just about 72 grams not ounces .thinking of selling . where is the best place to sell . I no i would more than likely have to pay tax which isn,t a problem. Its not a business.grandfather told me it was a good thing to save .all kept at the bank do i use them to sell it or is there a better way of selling .sorry put this on the wrong place moving it to lounge

You would sell it as 'scrap'.
Any non chain jeweller will weigh it and make you a price.
The price will be discounted but they also have to sell it on and carry the risk of impurities etc.
Strip out anything that is hall marked or is stamped bullion/coinage. That will have the beat value as it can be valued reasonably accurately. The rest is real scrap but still with fair value.
With anything hall marked you can work put your own value online and so long as you appreciate that the jewellers offer will be well discounted you can use this information to protect yourself from being scammed and be confident that you are getting a fair price.
If you are in London then PM me as I van probably give you a couple of trusted names.

Go to a normal scrap dealer , they will give you the going rate as per there display screen in the office.
Do not i repeat do not go to a jeweller , ramsdens or any other profit making shop.
Sell soon as im reckoning the bubble will be a bursting fairly soon.
It was described as scrap. A jeweller is exactly the right place to obtain the correct Market price for scrap gold. Not Baird and co or scrap metal dealer. Do not i repeat do not go to a jeweller , ramsdens or any other profit making shop.

The likes of Ramsdens are not jewellers. They are, like Argos, just shops that sell jewellery.
The key lies in taking your scrap to the right jeweller and taking it in parcels not one deal.
There was mention of a bar but whether Bairds would be the right place depends on how it has been stored. If it is just loose then it has no value greater than hallmarked scrap and the associated discount for risk.
