the reason you'd buy a 5k watch pre-owned is because you were worried about depreciation, and you wanted someone else to take the hit.
the reason you'd buy a Dornbluth is Because you wanted utterly exquisite craftsmanship, personal service, and a joyful experience every time you look at your stunning timepiece.
If you spend five g's on a stainless Rolex Sports model after reading about this experience, you have lost the game.

Interesting thread and a nice presentation of a well made watch but it's not for me, too large. 38mm is the biggest I ever consider. http://www.tz-uk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t...
I love my Dornbluth

and although I've not checked the prices lately £5k should get you a very nicely specified 99.1 complete with the bracelet & a couple of Dirk's beautiful straps.
Of as tertius says £5k gets you into some very nice pre-owned stuff - Glashutte Original Sport Evo, Zenith Striking 10th, vintage Rolex 5513 etc. etc.

whats a Dornbluth worth after 5 years ? Do they sell well S/H ?
They don't often come up for sale s/h. Being made to order, most are keepers.I reckon I'd get my money back (or close to it) on mine. Avoiding the 6 month wait + the lack of any personalised engraving would help.

part of the issue will be the S/H value i assume ? Most guys dont want to take a huge hit. But this is in general . this particular watch custom level is high , so might be a real keeper !
You've lost meI think I have decided this is where my next lump of cash is going.

I've a spare kidney I'd give for an A Lange and Sohne. In fact I could probably manage without one of my lungs too.http://www.alange-soehne.com/cms/en/timepieces/ind...

square earth - I "think" the point you might be trying (very badly) to make unless I'm mistaken, is that any watch that is VERY bespoke might have a very narrow appeal should the original owner want to sell it on & therefore suffer badly from depreciation - am I correct?
If that was big a concern, the Dornbluth buyer could just pick the most common spec & have no personalised engraving at all, but these watches should be reasonably unique - otherwise what's the point? Nobody worried about needing money to eat should sink money into high end watches in any case - definitely not brand new ones.
