I posted a thread hoping for advice on a new watch and a few people have noticed I am paying through the clubcard exchange which is 4x the value at the moment.

Just posting this as a quick heads up for those who may have a few vouchers to cash in.

Remember it is against their list price, often you can buy cheaper without the vouchers

That would depend on the price of the watch!! I won't be doing it again, several of the watches were cheaper without the vouchers, and I had over £1000 worth

It depends on what % of the purchase price you are funding with vouchers. If it is most of it it has to be cheaper than anywhere else, but if it is only 20% of the total cost, you'd likely just be better off taking a discount from an AD and spending the vouchers on something else.

You have £100 of tesco vouchers you get £400 of Goldsmiths vouchers , thats effectively a 75% discount. How can you get better?

Simple, £2000 watch, they will sell to you for £1500 cash, but you have £400 of value in vouchers so the cash price goes back up to £1600, it's not hard.

This is exactly what Goldsmiths in Bluewater tried to do to me. I ended up buying a watch I didnt want with the vouchers and flipping it, just to get rid of them.

So for the £2000 watch you hand over £400 worth of Tesco vouchers to get £1600 of Goldsmiths vouchers and add £400 of cash, can't see how this is worse than spending £1500 cash to get the same watch.

For me I use my Tescos credit card to pay for things throughout the year that I would buy anyway meals food etc. I purchase fuel for the daily runaround from Tescos so get points for that as well as paying by card again so I see my vouchers as free which means for the watch above that would be £400 cash only, good deal.

I think you have misunderstood the poster's example. I think he is saying that in total after the one for four exchange you have £400 worth of vouchers; so you must add an additional £1600 to purchase a £2000 RRP watch, which could have been yours for £1500 had you paid cash and asked for a discount.

I purchased a B&R earlier this year on this scheme, saved myself 30% overall so I figured it was a worthwhile deal.

Eh?

That's not what he said. He had £100 Tesco vouchers...so £400 of Gold Smiths vouchers.

Does anyone really have £400 in Tesco vouchers? I can't imagine their are many with that many as they expire.

I'm sure some people do smile

Obviously if you've only got a small amount, you might be able to drive a better deal for cash.

I have had in excess of that per quarter on several occasions in the past, after abusing various bonus points schemes - quite often multiple 1000 point bonus items.
Used to be a very easy way to rack up an awful lot of BA miles.
I havent spent a single £ in tesco for ages now though...

We've got a Tesco CC, so you can rack up the points without ever spending a penny there (We do the weekly shop there too, but that's not where the majority of our points come from).

We just got 2000 points for buying 6 months of weekly delivery slots up-front (plus the cost per delivery was better). What's 2000 points worth as £?
