Does £200pa to insure an ss daytona sound expensive? It does to me!

Are there any companies that do standalone watch insurance other than TH March?
Thanks

Ridiculous!

Why not put it on your home insurance? Many on here do, myself included. Covers them in and away from the home... Adds only a few quid onto the policy

Standalone watch / jewellery insurance will always be relatively expensive as they are only insuring a selection of high risk and expensive items.

Your home contents policy has a balance of risk consisting of the above plus all the stuff not likely to be stolen (general household goods)

Consequently normally as said above it is far better to add it to your contents insurance.

Ah I see you have not told the wife wink

March have been doing this for a while so I suspect their rates are there or thereabouts. It may seem a lot but then there is a lot at risk.
Rock and a hard place and all that
Good luck

Subject to a proper valuation, a decent safe (which we have) & suitable home security (which we also have), my collection are on the house contents insurance with Lloyds.

Previously with the Pru, the cost me a fortune to insure as high value items.

This sounds expensive to me but then it's worth the same as the average car (if not more) and it may well be worn all day, everyday, in different places, doing different activities... Home insurance is the way forward but, in isolation, perhaps £200pa isn't that bad when you look at it like that!?

You have said you cannot add it to your home insurance but for your interest my Daytona when added for all risks and away from home increased my premium by £20 per annum.

With Hiscox I'm pretty sure the single item limit without having it specifically listed is £15k - very hany for a flipper like me.

I'm with them - not the cheapest, but are supposed to be very good when you actually need them.

On my home insurance I've got a Breitling Seawolf, Monaco 24, aquaracer and a few other items over the £5k limit for an extra £9 a month.

When I renewed my home contents insurance a couple of weeks ago I flagged up that I wanted a watch insured for £3.6k and the company refused to continue to insure me. Granted I live in a shared flat in central London, but still.....

In the end it cost me about £100 to insure it as a specific item on my contents insurance, with a sneaky feeling I was paying a bit much. I couldn't find a better offer though (probably due to a lack of effort and enthusiasm for the cause on my part).

For anyone with sub-£10,000 watches, which describes all of my own, Id suggest AXA.

A lot of insurers have failed to raise their thresholds as values and new costs have rocketed, making a reasonable insurer in 2008 a pain in the arse now, requiring valuations and safes etc., for watches which passed unnoticed before.

Sorry for the thread resurrection but I wanted to thank you, GC8, for this nugget of advice. AXA sorted out household insurance for me that included my watch for less than half the price I've been paying Barclays for the last two years.

AssetSure wanted £240 to insure my (~£9500) IWC separately.
DirectLine only cover valuables up to £5k unless you have a safe in your home.
